Hi I did a general search for civil ceremony venues in the North West and there was a thread about 3 years ago. It had some useful information on it but I guess some of it will be a bit out of date.
My daughter is looking for a small low cost wedding venue say upto 50 guests somewhere in the North West. I d be grateful for any recommendations or suggestions for a wedding which isn't going to cost 20k
many thanks

Try council owned venues. I am having my wedding at Buile Hill Park Hall in Salford and it is working out much cheaper than anywhere else we looked.Getting married Wednesday 24th August 2011!
2010 wins: approx £2198
2011 wins value so far: approx £650

Here's links to webpage for East Cheshire - near the top you can open their brochure with premises, and also the Chester/West Cheshire one. They give you the grander places that will break the bank but also the smaller ones depending on your budget and personal preference. We're getting married at Chester Zoo which is a place that's special for us, but rather than do all day there and have exclsuive use, we're having just one room and having an evening do elsewhere so it's a lot cheaper0

Where abouts in the north west - we are a pretty big place?0

I put the churches post code into late rooms to see which hotels where near by as it tells you the distance from the postcode and I found a hotel that I didn't know about, doesn't charge for room hire just food and I was able to create my own menu too. It's also quite small so means that there will be nothing else going on on the day0

We were married at The North Euston in Fleetwood. We had a late in the day wedding, so had everyone to all IYKWIM.
We paid 4K inc ceremony, buffet & bridal suite, but did a lot ourselves, inc chair covers, table decs etc perhaps that is the way to go?0 -
How about trying a National Trust property like Rufford Old Hall? http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-vh/w-visits/w-findaplace/w-ruffordoldhall/w-ruffordoldhall-weddings.htm
The Great Hall is lovely!
They also have 3 other places...

Beautiful building and grounds - We got married on a Thursday to save money and had bacon barms instead of a buffett.
Also we made our own intivations and table decorations to save money.0
