No me too... I sat there repeatedly saying to the owner 'but I don't have room for three' over and over :D

But you said she's only a little teeny weeny itsy bitsy kitten - how much room can she take up? ;)

But this is coming from a woman with 2 dogs and 3 cats in a 2 bed terrace with back yard (walled courtyard garden for any southerners reading) who often has to fight for space on the couch and frequently sleeps in a tiny corner of a king size bed because the cats have taken over the rest of it - thank god the dogs aren't allowed upstairs :D

Shush :D I can't even entertain the notion of three cats, no matter how beautiful they are :D

"frequently sleeps in a tiny corner of a king size bed because the cats have taken over the rest of it"

Tizerbelle - that makes me feel just a little bit better as my single cat hogs 90% of my kingsize - I have been known to wake up not only on the opposite side of the bed, but hanging off the end as she's obviously moved me around during my sleep.

Snowedunder - don't envy you having to make a choice like that - but honestly, if you're going to be owned by 2 cats, you might as well be owned by 3! I would love to have more than one but my little monster (street stray) has made it very clear that she will not share her servant as the service level is appalling enough with just her to look after :)

If you've got room for one you've got room for three :) Three cats and two humans regularly fit in our bed somehow!

Are you sure you can't find room for a little quiet cat who could tuck in the corner? Go on you know you want to :)

I agree - take all three. The rehoming centre where I get my cats from won't rehome kittens on their own because it can traumatise the kitten if they don't have siblings/parents around in an unfamiliar environment. I really do think that three will not cost you much more in money or hassle than two.

The personality the kittens have now is not set in stone. They can change according to their environment and treatment. My cat was a total cow when I got her (hissing, scratching, biting) but six months of love and routine later and she was absolutely lovely (and still is).

Hard decision though, I know. Good luck!

Don't let the people on here persuade you into taking three... you know the budget you have and the space you have, if that is only substantial enough for two cats, or even just one then take the one that fits in best with your family.

I'd go for the boy and the boisterous girl in your position, the small quiet cat will be ideal for older, quieter households. Rememebr most people aren't likely to rehome in pairs, so having just one left isn't a problem, especially if local cat rescue centres won't rehome singly.:D

  • Hiya,

I was in your position. We were looking at the cats home for 2 adult cats to entertain each other when we were at work etc. But we came across three kittens from a litter. Two girls and a boy. Again one girl was boisterous and the other more timid. We fell in love with all three and asked if we could take them all. The woman at the cats protection was happy (she had 5 herself) but one person passing by said 'three kittens - good luck'!

I can honestly say that I don't think there is any added effort between having two and having three. They love it as there is always another cat to play with, and the timid little girl has turned into a right little cutie. They all have their own quirky personalities and likes/dislikes. The cat insurance is about 20 per month for three. Only one cat (the boy) is a big eater the other two just pick so the cost of food isn't dramatically higher. We called them Sydney, Darwin and Tazzy (Tasmiania) after our three fave places in Oz. Oh and with regards to space we have a catflap so they can go crazy in the back garden as much as they like. I would say get the three if you feel you can give them all a good home but then again I'm biased :D Good luck x
