Which kitten?

We are rehoming two kittens from an unwanted litter - currently there's three in the litter, two girls and boy. One of the girls is somewhat littler than the other two, and the owner says she's quieter where the other two are more boisterous and play fight a lot. The boy was very friendly when I went to see them today (they're around 4.5 weeks) the 'boisterous' girl didn't seem as keen (although wasn't unfriendly) and the 'quiet' girl seemed quite friendly!!
The 'boisterous' girl is very pretty, and was the one I originally was going to choose, but based on todays brief meeting I'm not entirely sure now. I don't think I can really base their personalities on one 15 minute meeting, but I'm not entirely sure if there's anything I should be looking for. I asked the owner if two in particular were close, or two fought (properly) but she said not really. I was wondering if the little one is quite quiet, whether the boisterous one would be more suited to my house (4 and 6 year old children) or not. Also a silly part of me wonders if I took the little one, maybe the prettier one would be easier for them to also rehome elsewhere
Any suggestions?

Personally I would go with 1 girl and 1 boy as girls can have a tendency to fight as they get older. Just because one is quiet now doesn't mean they won't have a great little character as they grow up. My youngest is really coming out of herself now she has settled in, when we got her she was as quiet as a mouse!*~* Baby Girl born 29.10.10 - Isobelle Grace *~*

Of course with one of each, you need to make sure they get snipped EARLY. Nev and Splodge are uncle and niece, born three days apart (both single kitten litters). Splodge came into heat unexpectedly at 4.5 months, and Nev knew what to do with his "bits". We had them booked in for snipping and chipping at six months, but fortunately the vet could fit us in that week...
But other than that, they're adorable. Very loving to us and each other, play well together (when they want to), love hunting moths and butterflies and grasshoppers...We may not have it all together, but together we have it all

Hey
Yeah we're def getting a boy and girl, and I already have neutering sort of planned
Just can't decide between the two girls! 0 -
I'm such a soft touch, I'd take the one least likely to be re-homed, which means the less attractive and smaller female. So that's one sorted.
Her companion ? I'd take her Sister. Yep, they may fight ... may ... but it'll be a sibling "play" thing, they'll keep each other good company.
That being said, I'd say the male will outlive the pair of them, based on our experience.
Good luck whatever you do !I no longer contribute to the Benefits & Tax Credits forum.0 -
Oops you've made your mind up ... M/F ... LOL.
Good luck no matter which female you get ... I know which one I'd take though :cool:I no longer contribute to the Benefits & Tax Credits forum.0 -
lol yeah sorry I thought I'd put in the original post that! I liked the cute boy from the photos, and he was so friendly and sweet that I can't leave him

I'm going back in two weeks to decide I hope their personalities have come out a bit more!0 -
My youngest is the runt of the litter and she is now a right little madam. Its amazing how much their personalities come out when you get them home too! Good luck x*~* Baby Girl born 29.10.10 - Isobelle Grace *~*

I would go for the quiet girl. When I got my youngest, he was the quietest of the litter and as my older boy was quite boisterous, I thought that would work better. After he settled in, he became much more playful and has plenty of wild moments, but he never reached the wild level that my older cat did when he was a kitten. I think opposing personalities works well and having two very active cats can be hard work. My boys get on fantastically and I'm sure the wee one will come out of herself once she's settled in her new home.0

Is it just me that would feel too guilty about leaving one kitten behind, all on it's lonesome, lost, grieving for her littermates never to be happy again and so would end up with all three?

No me too... I sat there repeatedly saying to the owner 'but I don't have room for three' over and over

Truthfully, I'm pushing it at two, but it does break my heart
