PAYG phone deal + SIM only?

Hi,
I think I've come up with a cheap way of getting a decent phone and cheap contract, but it seems a little too easy and I wanted to see if anyone else has tried it or heard of any problems. I was thinking of getting a SIM-only contract with a company, and then buying a phone on PAYG with the same company to prevent any problems with locking. To my mind, this would get me a cheaper phone than buying without the PAYG deal, but still get the value of a SIM only contract. Do you think this would work?
Thanks!

I did exactly the same, works out much better and I'm not tied into any long contracts. Good luck!"We are the change that we seek."0
