    just done a default restore againn to be sure, seems ok s it must have been a non advent BIOS as its now coming up with a white splash screen instead of a black one


    yep, passed the very first WGA download so we are back in business

    so just to summarise, someone had possibly changed motherboards then reloaded the originial MSI bios as opposed to the Advent Bios (or used a motherboard from a MSI and did not reload). This was causing it to fail WGA as the Advent OEM windows looks for the Advent Bios which was missing ( pointed out by Donnie) and a reload of the proper Advent BOS has stopped this

    These Advents were rebadged MSI WInd netbooks sold by Dixons/pcworld so are identical machines but with different BIOS
