I am having a clear out and want to transfer about 50hrs of VHS home video to DVD, can anyone recommend a good machine to buy to do this. I see that Argos have a Funai HDR-B2735 machine on sale for £199, but I have never heard of this make, are they any good ?
Has anyone any advice or tips as the best / most productive way to do this, and also the cheapest.
Any advice or views would be most welcome.

Keep moneysaving and thanks !

What equipment have you got at the moment?
Assuming you have a VHS machine already you just need a DVD recorder. A basic one will under £100 in ASDA or Tesco if you don't need the extra capabilities of the Funai0 -
Have you got a DVD writer on your PC? If so you could buy a cheap TV card, fit it in your PC and then connect your VCR up to its TV In connection. Play the VCR, record the input on the PC and then burn it to DVD.
Aldi do cheap TV Cards every once in a while, might be worth having a look.SIMPLE SIMON - Met a pie man going to the fair. Said Simple Simon to the pie man, "What have you got there?" Said the pie man unto Simon, "Pies, you simpleton!"0 -
best to get a dvd recorder. even better if it has a hard drive then you can edit or split programs before transferring to dvd.
try richer sounds they are sometimes cheaper.
i have a panasonic dvd recorder with a hard drive. just connect the vcr to it and record away
advice - if you have an important recording like a wedding/birthdays etc always best to do another recording on dvd as a back upProblem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problemsWell at least i learn something on the way

i bought a cheap dvd recorder for £100 from great universal and am in the process of transferring all my videos to dvds from my old video machine - so far they are ok - no problems and easy to do0

I have a Funai HDR-B2735 and am on the whole happy with it. VCR to DVD dubbing works fine. Video editing such as removing adverts is a bit clunky but is usable.0

i have goodmans dvd recorder i have transfered my camcorder tapes on to dvd which work fine if played back on the recorder
but they will not play on other dvd players or on my pc
please can anyone help and tell me where i am going wrong
thank you0 -
i think with mosr dvd recorders you have to finalise the disc before it will play on any other machine so maybe it just needs finalizing0

Injul,
If you havent got a VHS player anymore could you borrow one of a mate, then you could use a much less expensive DVD recorder (I was browsing in Comet this week and was amazed at how many £70 machines were available).
Why pay for a VHS drive on your new machine you will hardly ever use again.0 -
I have a Freeview Tuner card for my PC that has audio + S-video in. Can you buy any software that will write the data to a standard DVD?0
