    Hi ,

does anybody have any idea as to what credit limit sainsburys is offering on their cards ?
I would like to put my home double glazing on it and dont want to apply if they are offering a small limit.

I think some time back Barclays had a similar offer and martin said they were taking long to process and had small limits.

The Sainsbury's card is actually operated by Halifax, Royal Bank of Scotland and friends. I went for them almost a year ago, and had been offered a significantly higher credit limit than with any other CC company I'd previously used. Obviously, figures will depend on circumstances and whether you have a 'clean sheet' in paying your cards off, but I'd happily recommend them. The internet management of the account is also very straightforward.
  • Martin mentions GE's very strict credit screening policy. I have just applied for, and been offered the card, despite not owning property and stuff, and having other cards with a balance which I have transferred to GE as the 0%-offer on these came to an end, which used to create a few problems with other companies in the past. So if you haven't been in arrears with any payments, it may still be worth giving GE a try. I should also mention that initially I had been offered by them a somewhat disappointingly low credit limit which wouldn't have allowed me to 'tart on' and transfer my full balance to them; however, on registering the card by telephone, my credit limit was immediately upped (in this case almost tripled) instantly by the guy on the phone so that I was able to shift the full balance to them. Thus, so far, they've left a nice impression with me, and thumbs up for them.

Well they (GE) turned me down. I believe this was because I've just moved house although I haven't had this confirmed. My Credit Rating is very good, no debt apart from mortgage, and I've lots of other cards always fully paid off etc, decent salary... etc

  • Have I understood incorrectly that the loyalty points worth 50p for every £100.00 spent on M&S Card refer only to goods purchased for M&S items & a lesser rate is given when using the M&S card for all other purchases?

I am having a few problems with GE money.

I was accepted quicly in August and waited for my card..... rang last week (overly patient) and was told they had had problems sending cards out. However when he checked my file he thought that my card should have been sent out before that so re ordered my card.

Now that card has arrived (11th October!) and I rang this morning and this card has been cancelled so I have to wait for the new card to be processed.

Apparently the girl I was talking to can't contact the processing department in any way, and agreed that was quite stupid.

So after being accepted on the 9th of August I am still waiting for my card.

As I have managed to pay off all my debts and have reduced my card use this means I have no credit card at all, and want to book some special offer flights to Las Vegas - let's hope the card gets here soon!

(Visiting friends - not gambling lol).
NO EXCUSES - THIS YEAR IT'S PERSONAL..........

Halifax and Bank of Scotland (ie HBOS) not RBS!
    Waddle you do eh?
  • The Post office credit card in Martin's newsletter this week for payment in foreign currencies has no hidden exchange charges and if you apply through Greasy Palm there is currently £7.80 cashback.
  • We are buying a new car for my wife, the cost will be about £17500. I want to be able to stagger the payments (on a credit card) over 24 to 36 months, interest free if possible. If it helps, we always pay off our credit cards in full every month so should have a good credit rating. Which will be the be best way to go forward with this. Thanks in advance.

  • I've been offered a cheque book with my 0% for a year credit card and wonder if there is any catch with writing cheques on a card? (I want to use it to pay for my daughter's out of school activities, ie to individuals who do not take credit cards.)
  • I have just applied and got the Halifax one card. I know it says 15 months interest free on purchases but I'm not 100% sure what this means. So if I buy things from like Tesco and pay my car insurance on the card, does this mean that I wont get charged interest on the money on my card for 15 months as long as I pay off the minimum amount each month? I've never had a credit card before and I dont want to end up paying interest by accident!
