Totally Confused Technophobe Needs Help!

Hello

Apologies in advance for long post, but will try and keep it straightforward.
  • Ive taken out an 02 pay monthly 18 month contract.
  • 50 minutes calls per month.
  • Unlimited texts.
  • £10 per month.
So I'm assuming that I can call any number in the UK with that allowance, landlines or mobiles?

Assume texts will be free to all networks but if I texted Cyprus, that would be outside the allowance?

Now the tricky bit (for me anyway, please don't laugh!)

Bluetooth
Does that cost anything to use?
I bluetoothed images over from my old phone to my new one. Should that be kept on when not transferring things?
Is that all it does, allows you to send images and videos to another phone nearby?

Wi-fi
I've got that switched on. What is it for? What does it do? Should it be on or off?

Sony Erricson Elm
There is a GPRS called Wisepilot built in.
So if I put an address in it will give me walking or driving directions. Is that going to charge me?
And how much does it charge?

Tracker
It's also got Tracker built in - is that free to use or would that be charged?

Walk Mate
It's supposed to have Walk Mate installed, like a built in pedometer but I can't find it anywhere on there. Any ideas?

Mobile Internet
Totally confused after speaking to 02.
I was told: The O2 Web Daily is a default Bolt On that is added on every Pay Monthly contract free of cost. If you access the internet on your phone then you'll pay accordingly to the web daily rates. She told me that if I use 20p of data then I pay 20p. If I use £8 worth of data, I pay £1 per day maximum so the monthly data charge will never be over £31.

My questions:

If I go on facebook for half an hour in morning on the mobile then same at night, do I get charged £1 maximum or is it charged per individual session. When they give data charges, what does that mean in time aspect?

Eg. if i browsed Facebook for half and hour, wrote a couple of photos and emails, whats a rough cost for that?
I don't know how much data it uses to browse the net.

Accuweather
Then there's Accuweather application, put in postcode and you get weather. Is that free?

Because the phone is geared up to be eco friendly ish they did away with the manual.
Ive looked on net but need a more straightforward explanation.

Thank you to anyone who can enlighten me.

Also, if there's any other good tips or advice for this phone, please let me know! I changed to this contract to save topping up £10 per month on my 02 pay as you go because I could only text 02 numbers for free on that, but wanted to text all networks.

I am now worried that my bill will shoot up if I don't know what I'm doing using all these new applications on the phone.

It's official, I'm a dumb brunette. :(

  • I'll tell you what I can but I don't have all the answers for you, I'm afraid.

You can call any number in the UK beginning with 01, 02 and, possibly, 03. You can also ring 07 numbers where these are mobiles but some 07 numbers charge a premium rate and you will be charged - very heavily - for these. There used to be a warning message given if youi dialled one of these numbers but the networks and BT did away with this a few years ago.

Texts will be included in the UK if you text a landline or mobile. You will also be able to send to certain "short codes" (five digits) but others, as with the 07 numbers, are premium rate. You will be able to receive texts free if you are abroad but it will cost you to send them.

Bluetooth is free but will drain your battery quicker.

Wi-Fi is for connecting to your home broadband or places like McDonalds where it's free.

Personally, I wouldn't use mobile internet without a data bundle but that's a personal preference thing. Pricing and length of time you can surf for is difficult to judge as it depends on what you're doing.

    Hope this helps.

Wise Pilot does use data as the maps are downloaded on-line as you go .

I tend not to use data on my phone unless their is a need and no free wi fi. Wi Fi is the wireless network that broadcasts of your home wireless router same as you use a laptop from . Its also free in many outlets coffee bars pubs etc .

Accu Weather is free bar the data charge .

I dont know much about the phone but my usage is similar grab the weather check twitter and a few other pages .
Cost so far is 30p a day when used as long as i dont go above 25 mb usage ( that's with virgin not used my o2 account yet ) . So judged on my use you are hardly likely to go over the limit .
