    Did a road trip round the G.Canyon and it was brilliant. Thought I'd leave a few pointers for anyone else who comes across this thread..

    I'd definitely suggest going after October and avoiding the summer there as Arizona is bleeding hot! You also should visit the Petrified forest, go round the navajo nation and visit either Bryson/Zion national parks..really superb. I even got free entry into one as it was national parks day :)

    I did about 1400 miles in 3 days - a bit much but real easy driving in the states with straight flats..

    Oh yeah, motels wise - Best value is ok in Phoenix; avoid motel6 for the most part as they are rather dodgy. Stayed in a lovely travelodge in Hurricane. A real mix in terms of motel quality in teh U.S as they are family run so you need to check the reviews before you go..and oh yeah book well before the wknd!!
