Hi all,
Looking for some input as to what would be best to see in 3-4 days in Arizona.
Am going for work but would like to take a few days off to see the sights:
Grand canyon being one of them. Sedona is the other option. Would anyone be able to recommend a cheap rental car place or am i better off trying the tour operators for a good deal as am travelling on my own.
Are there any other must see sights/sounds and eateries to try out
... Thanks!

I'm off to Phoenix tomorrow. I'm probably not much help... I'll be playing golf virtually every day!
From what I've read Sedona is beautiful... get a car for netflights.com (smallest one) and get over there!!0 -
Sedona and GC are high above the desert (Phoenix) so in the winter months snow is an issue as well as the cold.
Went at the beginning of March one year and only could go as far as Sedona because of the need of snow tyres to get the GC. It was below freezing at night in Sedona.
Other suggestions are in no particular order
Game of Baseball (On until October sometime)
Tombstone south of Tuscon (Day trip to see both or stay overnight in Tuscon)
Game of Golf
Desert Biotanical Gardens
Frank Wright School (forgot the name)
Check tripadvisor
I normally pick up a car from the airport on arrival from avis or hertz. I suggest getting a bigger engine vehicle if you drive up to Sedona/GC.
I am going at the end of October for 10 days.
I hope this helps, my first post.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I am travelling next week, hopefully!
Would you be able to recommend any tour operators who be able to sketch out a trip for me. I've looked at http://www.southwesttours.com/Sedona.html and http://www.phoenixtours.us/?event=offer.detail&offerId=4206.
Any rental car places that give a good deal in the U.S -i'd probably pick it up in Phoenix. Is there anything i should not do while there ..;)

As mentioned before - netflights.com
Booked the 2 door compact (cheapest). Had choice out of Ford Focus and Nissan Sentra. Took the Sentra. Driven about 500 miles in it so far. Does the job!0 -
I went here http://www.b2science.org/b2/visitor-admission.html when I was last in Arizona. Fascinating place.0

We found the best car hire deal was booking in advance via www.carhire3000.com.
The Grand Canyon is amazing! Have a great trip.0 -
Hi mahesh_on! My daughter lives in Phoenix so we've been a few times. We generally go in December though, when it's just perfect weather - ie not too hot! Phoenix at the moment will be hot, hot, hot! Sedona will be a little cooler and you will love it.
I must say, we always go for day trips away and because of those nice straight roads, people think nothing of driving a while to get to somewhere interesting. We've been to LA, Las Vegas, Denver Colorado, Grand Canyon, Sedona, Monument Valley in Tuscon. Many, many wonderful places to visit.
But you asked specifically for places in and around Phoenix? Well, Sedona as mentioned, plus Scottsdale is a wonderful place to shop.
Tombstone is about 5 hrs drive away but again, that'll be very hot just now.
Prescott (maybe 4 hrs drive?) is a gorgeous town and higher up so that'll be a respite from the heat and near to Prescott is Jerome. Jerome is set up in the hills and there's a wonderful drive to get there with a point halfway up where you can get out and see a marvellous view.
Wherever you go - have fun!I don't drink, don't smoke, don't go out - why aren't I rich?
Don't worry, I'm working on it!0 -
Thanks guys! That's been great feedback:) Am now looking to rent a car (the dodge charger looks nice!) from one of the recommendations.
I am planning on doing a few driving trips: Las Vegas, Sedona, Tombstone though I think LA might be a bit farWould anyone be able to recommend the best way of booking any B&Bs or motels as i guess they call them in the U.S.
I also found the last time I was there that using my Credit card was steep and nationwides debit card was not that great either! Hopefully they'll be a little less sun too ...MS2U0 -
Been to Sedona today - awesome. you have to go.
Temperature there is 85. Phoenix it was high 90's.
Motels - Motel6 is a decent national chain. Never stayed in them mind. I'm far too posh0
