Giff Gaff sim in a Tesco Phone

Im thinking about switching from Tesco to Giff Gaff (both part of the O2 network). Tesco charge £20 to unlock the phone, but am wondering if i need to as its part of the same network. Has anyone tried using a giff gaff SIM in a Tesco phone?

    You will need to get the phone unlocked. They might all use the same mobile network, but Tesco phones are locked to accept only Tesco sims.
