Mazuma - Sim card left in phone

I sent my phone to Mazuma for the cash, however left the sim card in.

I have since received a phone bill for £96.00 for calls made to China.

I've phoned both Orange and Mazuma who both say it is my fault for leaving the sim card in the phone.

Has anyone been in the same situation and can offer any advice?

No its down to you to remove it/cancel it.

Appears to be a contract as the OP received a bill for £96....

Sorry OP, looks like you'll have to swallow this, the pack they send does advise you to remove the sim and memory card.
  • That, and I believe Orange's contract states that you'll be liable for all charges if you're negligent - i.e. put an active SIM in the post to a random company.
  • I hope you have cancelled that SIm card by now.

Sure, a reasonable person would not go spending on someone else sim card, but when you post to random people who can't get caught, its like trolling online. They will just do it. You are going to have to cough up the bill on this just as if you had lost the phone.

  • I'm surprised they don't have a policy of simply removing and destroying the sim cards found in any phones on arrival.

If you are on payg linked to a direct payment you could also get a bill.

incase you haven't done already, make sure that sim card is cancelled. otherwise your charges will go on for another month.

You are quite fortunate that the bill is only £96... it could have been tenfold. There are plenty of forum posts on here where this has been the case!

They probably do, but if one slips though then they would be liable. People can be afterall dishonest. So they simply state in their T&Cs the sender is liable if they make the mistake of doing so.
