Hi

I work part time, have 2 DS`s and a hubbie how is never home. On top of this we have money worries, illness in the family etc So I know I have a lot on my plate but doesn`t everyone?

I can`t rember the last time i vaced upstairs!

Here is a normal day, get up at 7.15am as DH leaves for work-no point in getting up before-he is just in the way!
Peg out washing-make packed lunches-get boys up-breakfast-dressed-put boys on school bus-go to work-leave work pick boys up from school-home-go swimming on bus/walk I don`t have a car-home tea-homework-bring in washing-tidy round-boys bedtime-clean up in kitchen-sort post-go to bed!

We do do something most nights after school- sports club, swimming, beavers etc I fid it best to keep them busy as other wise they fight!

I don`t have any me time, not much couple time and wounder how people who work full time do it?

Any ideas?

  • I'm a single mum working full time. I get up at 6am. Make myself a cup of tea, then peg out washing (hich I put on as I went to bed) get packed lunches out of fridge (made the night before) get tonights' dinner sorted (leave meat to defrost) peel potatoes, or chop onins. get my son off to school at 7.30, my daughter to work at 8 and still get out by 8.15 myself!
However, I don't care in the least about dust, anyone who comments, (like my mum) gets a duster and polish in their hand, and I say "If it bothers you that much, do it!" The hoover only comes out when I think it looks grubby, and as for wiping skirting boards.....once a year I'm afraid!
The point is, deal with the everyday stuff, chuck out old newspapers, empty bins, put toys away. If you remove the clutter, rooms look clean even if they aren't! See what's the most important, do it first, and if it's not important, forget it! As Shirley Conran once said "Life is too short to stuff a mushroom!" LOL!!!!!

What time do your kids go to bed? If they are old enough to be up late, they are old enough to help you. If they aren't old enough to help, then put them to bed earlier so you can do the house work a couple of evenings in the week when they are asleep.

I work 2 and a half full days which is probably easier as even though my son doesn't go to nursery just yet, i can still get things done when he has a nap in the day. Saying that, he does try to help me too, bless him.

i work full time and do upstairs once a week. We only sleep up there so a dust and vacum on my day off is all it takes. Also i only clean the bathroom thoroughly once a week as i find rinsing the bath sink etc after use keeps on top of it. If i find the ironing is piling up i pack the fiddly bits - trouser with pleats in shirts etc off to a girl who charges about 40p per item. It's my little luxury but i do it about once every six weeks that time is spent playing with my dd. Get your kids involved in cleaning up a bit and on your next day off sod it all off. Pack the kids off to grandma's if you can, by a big bar of choccie and snuggle up on the sofa with a book or a dvd - because you deserve it. then after an afternoon relaxing run a big bubbly bath, open a bottle of wine and chill out in there.

    Hi Swizzle:wave:

Housework never ends. There is always some thing to do so DON'T BEAT YOURSELF UP about your house not being perfect.:j :j There will be plenty of time for that when you kids are grown up.

Don't forget that you are making a valuable contribution to the household budget by working (as well as running your house) and you can't do everything so as long as your family are happy and well looked after that should be enough and if your house is tidy just think of it as a bonus :):)

    Good luck
