You do know that a buyer can ask Ebay to remove a strike and 9 times out of 10 they will?

Ebay doesnt want to lose buyers......no buyers = no business.

Exactly where did you get that idea?

Ebay do very little to keep sellers happy, the one thing they have allowed us is to block serial non payers and the fact that I get at least one a month begging me to either remove a strike i have given them in the past or remove my blocks as they can't bid suggest that strikes stay exactly where they are.

In fact your own comment suggests why this is wrong as you say "no buyers = no business", and someone who does not pay is not a buyer, merely a tyre kicker and provide ebay with no revenue at all.

I get it from the fact that its happened to me and others for various reasons.

Go take a look on Ebays own forums and you will see the complaint there all the time, that strikes are next to useless a lot of the time.

If anyone gets emails begging to bid or the like then they obviously havent appealed the strike in the first place.

Strikes are given out sometimes when the circumstances are not cut and dried and when they are issued, you can then appeal them. A lot of people do not realise that they can be appealed but they can and the ones that are appealed 9 out of 10 are removed.

No buyer = no business is perfectly correct.

Strikes are issued because non payment is stated by the seller although there are often genuine reasons why the buyer has not paid. It does not mean that the buyer is not buying elsewhere or will buy in the future but, a buyer with 2 strikes is no good to Ebay whatsoever.

I agree you can appeal if the strike was issued incorrectly, we advise it on here. For instance, some sellers will refund a paypal transaction and ask for cash on collection and when buyer refuses they then try and recoup their FVFs by doing an NPB. However that can be rightly appealed as the strike should not have been given. That and the same one but where it was an echeque that a seller has refused are the common ones on the community boards, but in those cases it is correct that a strike should be removed. They are not non payers.

So are you saying don't bother with NPB? And where do you get the info that 9 out of 10 are removed?
  • I have my ebay set up to auto open disputes and then auto close and issue strikes and fee refunds.

I no longer worry about NPB. If they don't pay I just relist and move on.

Thankfully it doesn't happen very often and like Soolin I often get requests to let people bid/buy my items (I have the 2 strikes set up on preferences) as their strikes very obviously totally unjust.

When will it close? All i want is the final value back

OP if you opened a resolution case in Ebay for NPB, you can close it after day 4. Day 4, is exactly 4 days (to the second) after you opened the case (thanks Soolin). So you may not be able to close it until later tonight, first thing tomorrow.

When you do, if they havent responded, they shouldnt be able to leave feedback and will get a strike. Your FVF will be automated on your next invoice.

How long do you normally wait before opening a NPB dispute?

I sell the occasional thing and had 4 items sold last Wednesday 01 Sept. 2 have been paid for and sent but I am still awaiting payment fot the other 2.

1st buyer has 0 feedback and as far as I can see this is the only item they have won (they have bid on one other item according to ebay advanced search but did not win).

The other buyer is an overseas buyer who had queried the postage cost. He had seen the cost for UK instead of the cost to his country although it was included on the listing with tracked postage. I have sent an new invoice to this buyer on 02 Sept after the postage query with a reduced postage cost (as I just want rid of the item and the value is not really worth sending tracked).

I sent messages to the 2 buyers yesterday - hopefully friendly - to say the items will be sent as soon as payment is made.

I know you can open a case after 4 days, but how long would you allow the buyer to respond to a request for payment after sending a message?
  • I have the assistant working in SMP, I think she is available in all Ebay transactions (but cannot confirm). On day 4 she opens, sends a reminder on day 5 or 6 and then on day 8 hits a strike. I have some outside software which then automatically updates my stock and blocks the bidder. I wish it was as simple as that, but the assistant sometimes has an off day and tries to hassle people who may have had a partial refund or exchange.
