Removal men and tipping

I had no intention of tipping our removal men , seeing as it cost nearly a grand for the removal services. But the 3 guys worked hard all day and I was very impressed with them , So tipped them a tenner each. I couldn't really afford to , but thought they deserved it.0

I used the local pick up service when I put my furniture into safestore's storage. The people in the office were very specific about how the driver would help load the van and help unload it into the loading bay but it was up to us to get it into the storage unit. In the end, he helped us get it in the storage unit as well and figure out how to stack it so it all went in there.
And then I realised I'd left my purse at the house and had nothing to tip him!
Fortunately my mum had a £20 and a £5 in her purse so I gave the driver the £20 and she gave the £5 to my brother as he'd done all the heavy lifting. I wouldn't have bothered with tipping my bro though- I thought that's what older brothers were for! But then again, I guess that's what mum's are for too!0 -
I gladly gave the three blokes who did my removal £20 each as a tip because they worked really hard and were friendly and considerate people.
I'd far rather tip removal men who do a very hard physical job than say a taxi driver, yet somehow no-one seems to question tipping a taxi driver.0 -
We tipped ours £50 between 3 of them. They did a great job & we felt that the price for the removal job was reasonable in the first place.0

I would tip if I felt they had done a good job, I think £10 per person max though.0

Hi
If you cannot afford a tip how about making up a small box with biccys and squash to hand over at the end. That sounds like something they would appreciate.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0 -

I was thinking of baing a cake beforehand, biccies don't go down well with mebut not sure men eat cake (well ok my hubby does) and it would have ot be done the day before because of my illness i need to take it easy...
Also reading back through some of these replies i was reading your post Amyb again and you say £60 for 10 hours which is below the minimum wage if he is over a certain age, is he only 18 or something? I can't see how they can get away without paying the minimum wage?0 -

£6 a hour - over min wage which i think is about £5.80ish (and no he's a very loooong way off 18.)
And don't worry about baking anything. Buy cheap biccies and tea. They'll shovel it in in a about thirty seconds so your effert will be wasted!!!I'm so boring, my clothes wanna keep someone else warm, someone cooler0 -
but not sure men eat cake
You've obviously not met my OH then! The only reason he's willing to marry me is because I told him there'd be cake at the wedding
I haven't told him he's supposed to share it with the guests ... although maybe someone else has because he doesn't seem to want to invite anybody :rotfl:0 -
I haven't moved very often but I have always been impressed by the care, consideration and cheerfulness of the removers, not to mention the sheer amount of physical work involved. I've always tipped them. Last time, about 4 years ago, I gave them £20 each.0
