Sky Free Channels - No installation

Hi guys

I come cap in hand in hope of some guru like answers.

I have just moved into a new flat where the previous tenant had sky and the flat above has sky freesat.

The normal tv aerial is defunct and there are 2 white wires which I presume are the sky wires from the wall.

I have no phone/internet/tv and will want to get sky in to do all 3 but cannot take time off at present to sit in for them.

My question is, in the meantime, can I purchase a second hand sky box and use the 2 wires to receive their free channels without buying a card from them or needing an installation?

I'm essentially looking for the quickest way to get some TV reception in an area with no freeview coverage and while I cannot wait for any home visit for installation.

Any help will be very much appreciated.

Thanks all,

Jay

Check that the white cables actually go to a Sky Dish ( they are usually black cables ) and if they do, yes you can just hook up one cable to a standard Sky receiver or 2 to a Sky+ Receiver, ( but that will not be of any benefit to you, as you need a Sky Subscription to be able to record ).
  • thanks for your help, the white cables have a thin copper wire at the end, unlike any cables I have seen before but I think they were plugged into the last guys sky box.

I would like to pick up a box to watch tv in store so I can do it asap. Do you think these cables would plug into something like a general digital satellite box?

Would this even work, it seems like it would use the sky dish to pick up some free channels.

    Thanks
    Kane

Inactive already answered your question. All you need is an old Sky box and an F connector, if the cable end is bare. Plug one feed in and that will get you the majority of the Sky non-subscription channels. No card is required.
Or use a Freesat box to get the Freesat channels.
However the Sky option will be the cheaper one.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • great thanks for your help.

do you know if I were to go now and buy a sky freesat box, could I watch anything without the £20 card?

Yes, as already stated, no card is required. You will just lose Fiver, Five US, and another channel that currrently escapes me, but you probably didn't want anyway.
PS: no such thing as a Sky Freesat box. You just need a standard Sky digibox, eBay or freegle etc.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
