  • Sounds like a great Christmas. Well done on the sales, I'd like to have a clear out, but am not sure about the time of year for selling. Maybe my wedding dress will go with Christmas proposals...
  • Glad you had a lovely Christmas and how lovely to have a trip to look forward to now. X
Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D

It defintiely must be the time of year as we've been looking at holiday options since bedtime last night! One of us just needs to be decisive!

We were a bit impulsive Jimmy but we spend just as much money holidaying in the UK. We're also trying to take advantage of the children being young enough for free child places and term time holidays!

It's that time of year when we all want to decluttering isn't it. I'm definitely going to do more of it in 2018 and saw a challenge recently so may join in with that. My wedding dress was dry cleaned and has sat in the wardrobe for almost 14 years. Sure I wouldn't miss it just taking up space!
Glad you had a lovely Christmas and how lovely to have a trip to look forward to now. X

Definitely helps break the year up. We are going away in Feb, May and September!

Yesterday was fairly productive, sold an item and the lady gave us more cash than we asked as she had no change and felt it was worth it. Someone also collected a free suitcase that was damaged and was too heavy even when empty. It's being used to send clothes/items abroad to vulnerable people so glad we can help out.

I made a £20 mortgage OP as we'd also made £10 selling items before Christmas. My spreadsheet was playing up so I'll double check online banking later for balance. And there was me hoping the £20 might knock a month off the end date! I really want to set some goals/challenges for 2018 so could do with a working spreadsheet. It was made by a mfw friend a few tears ago and I have zero chance of fixing it myself!

    25p on y0ugov yesterday.

Off to work soon before catching up with friends later and I have another long weekend to look forward to.

  • I LOVE Peaky Blinders. Best TV in years (alongside GoT) in my humble opinion. Glad you had a lovely Christmas xx

  • Peaky fans here too. Met a guy last week who looks and sounds like Alfie Solomons AND sells flat caps.
  • It is a good time for it. Also, since the kitchen is in 2 weeks (!!) and we want to replaster/decorate the whole house around Easter time we need the house clear.

As nice as it is to keep the dress, they do take up a lot of space and are unlikely to be used again. Mum pulled hers out when I was looking, but thankfully didn't expect me to wear it (it was very 80s). Should have just bought a dress I would wear again!

You're doing really well on selling for Christmas week. Surprised people make an effort for these things over the holiday.

Today has been a slow day! We had friends round yesterday for a gathering and although the children ran amok through the house it was fairly tidy when they left. We did some food and everyone brought a plate too which helped. Our recycling box is definitely full now though. I only drank a bottle of wine and although we started the party about 3pm I took it easy but woke with a headache!

Dh has been to give blood, I've paid the tiler who called round. I've made a list of our holiday expense commitments and it's perfectly manageable alongside regular OP's of £300 a month so am hoping to reinstate these. Our fixed rate is up in 15 months so the plan is to get mortgage to just under 70k. Fingers crossed there are no more rate rises to help us secure a good deal. I think FD let you apply 6 months in advice so I'm going to investigate current rates and keep an eye on them throughout the year. We are very unlikely to move from FD especially now I can view balance on the app!

We were planning to go out tonight but for a meal and drinks out at a local restaurant it would have cost about £150 with a babysitter to we've made our apologies as we have had an expensive month with the car. I am tempted to use the £150 to pay off the holiday though!

Yes, I'm back! I missed everyone and for various reasons I think it'll do me good to return. It's also lovely to see how everyone is doing.
