So pleased to have finished work! Off now for a few days but do have a few long weekends to look forward to. DH managed to do our main food shop for Christmas day including 6 bottles of wine for £70!! Now I know I said we keep it low key but even I'm impressed with this! Christmas lunch will be chicken with all the trimmings and then a bit of a picky buffet later.
Car has been repaired and cost £178, I forgot to ask DH to ask them to check the brakes but they did notice I need new tyres (where does it end!!) so he's taking it back tomorrow so hopefully get the pads checked. I'd rather just get it sorted all together.
Had some complications with the bathroom earlier as plumber thought some parts were missing which he couldn't source elsewhere, he spent hours trying to sort it out then later found them in the packaging of something else at home when usually they're not packaged together!! Two of them were here for 7 hours today working on it so we're a bit further along. Still have the ceiling and spotlights to do which should be finished tomorrow. I'm shocked how long it's taking and have no idea how people replace a bathroom if they don't have another bathroom or toilet. It really is stunning though and I think I prefer it to our shower room which I love! Next year we are not doing home improvements over Christmas! We weren't even watertight for the extension this time last year!
Best add in some money news! DH had some free chicken fillets from one of his work suppliers so they have been portioned and frozen. They will last us all month at least. I took veg chilli to work but there was leftover soup so had that for lunch and the chilli for my dinner so have eaten very cheaply today. £2 spent on non-uniform day but no other spends apart from the food shop. Payday for me so transfers done and quite a lot left over which was nice to see.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Glad you're all finished at work - enjoy:)

Will send him more often PP!
Well today has been great! A friend offered yesterday for us to buy their old i-pad for £50 which we can collect tomorrow and the shop accepted a refund. DH took it back and we have saved £130 and this is 32g instead of the 16g we bought.
Bathroom is practically finished and we are delighted with it. I've had a lovely bath as suddenly showers weren't as appealing. It looks so much bigger in there too.
Main thing I'm happiest about (it was the bathroom until 10 minutes ago) is that we've just booked a holiday for next September. The hotel we went to twice this year are building a waterpark and we expected prices to be out of reach but it's the same as usual so we thought 'sod it' and booked it! DH has requested the time off work already! This stemmed from a brief conversation with my mum earlier about her wanting to take my nieces abroad! That was an expensive conversation!
Veg chilli for lunch that i'd bath cooked and not particularly enjoyed and 50p on y0ugov, see I'm not just spendy!!

Have enjoyed a couple of relaxing days. It has been very low-key as just been he four of us apart from my mum popping in yesterday and again today. We are going to hers for another roast tomorrow and had leftovers today. Only spends today were in some toilet roll which she got on his way home from work. We did have the bathroom rubbish collected though and that was £40 and I'd save £10 by haggling. The side of the house looks so much better now!
Need to check the cc tomorrow if it's updated, I'd already paid the iPad expenses off but they've since been refunded but still need to pay for the car so need to work out the difference. I think the tyres were about £96 but will check receipts tomorrow.
Children have had an early night which surprised us as they've been live wires today! We definitely need to all get out of the house tomorrow, even if it's just to our local park.
One more day off before a couple of days in work so hopefully by the end of the weekend I will have set some financial goals and also detail timescales for paying off the holidays I keep booking!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -

Thanks PP and debt free, hope you've both had a lovely break.
Well, all the wine and baileys has been drunk and we're focusing on tidying and decluttering today. Upstairs bathroom cleaned, ds bedroom sorted out, Christmas cards and some decorations taken down. The children have finally taken some of their toys to their bedroom which has also cleared some more space.
Advertised a bathroom cupboard we no longer need on a local selling site and that's sold pending collection. Ds has some toys he no longer wants but I'm not sure just after Christmas is the best time to sell them! Dh is going to do a skip run and I'm going to deep clean the shower room. Will give the rest of downstairs a quick once over later. My mum has invited us round for a late lunch so looking forward to that and it's always nice to continue the festivities. Back to work tomorrow so I'm really trying to make the most of my day off.
Dh and I have been getting into peaky blinders this week. It's fab, any other fans! Think we will finish season one tonight the rate we are binge watching it!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
