Just had a brainwave which may help you save a few more pennies on the food bill. I grow 'tree cabbage' (think cabbage on a stick - you just pick the leaves as you need them). My plants have been in the garden for 4 years and they're still growing. If you eat cabbage they're well worth it and grow virtually all year round. I let one of the plants go to seed last year and have loads left so if you'd like me to send you some then just shout.

Can I be terribly cheeky and ask for some od these please. Never heard of this and I eat LOADS of cabbage (love it stir-fried with garlic and soy-nomnomnom)0 -
Thanks Al, I will have a look. Dd has been teaching herself using y0utub3 but is trying to go through the lessons too quickly. She can however play a scale of c with two hands. Maybe it is working!
GreenT, the children weren't interested. I ended up baking alone and then they pulled the raspberries out of the cake. Was meant to be muffins but had run out of cases. Did you make anything nice?
I hadn't either brodiebobs, when I googled I think it was used a lot in stir fries so you definitely have the right idea.
Not much decluttering activity today, still got no motivation. Cant really count adding 2 pairs of shoes to the charity shop pile. I neeeeeed sunshine!!!
50p Tilly tidy made on top of bigger payment to cc. DH is up to 9 hours overtime so far this week with more expected tomorrow. Should all got through in time for payday :j
Managed an 8 mile run earlier. Am hoping this distance will be my weekly long run if not longer after my race next month. The hardest part about exercise is finding the time so am making the most of being off work.
Looking forward to some good food and wine tomorrow at the end of a long working week for DH. Feel like I've hardly seen him this week.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Hello,
Do we all have sunshine?
As the end of the first week off with the children is coming to an end I've realised we have spent hardly anything on entertainment. Aren't they cheap to please when they're little! We have gone to the park everyday and had an ice-cream at home @ldi do their version of mini magnums (more than big enough) and a box of 16 is £1.79.
I've frozen some of the raspberries we picked as we will never get through them and I don't want to waste them or eat them for the sake of it. Lately during my runs I have been keeping an eye out for blackberries! My mum had loads in her garden but she has moved! We have given though to meals to avoid waste and saved any leftovers. DH made a gorgeous lasagne and I was so tempted to go back for another portion or sneaky forkful but didn't as realised could make another meal with what I was eating out of greed!
Have also planted more lettuce and rocket leaves as we are getting through a lot of salad at the moment. Need a top up shop later as planning a trip to the beach tomorrow and need picnic items. Food spends do seem quite low up to now which is great as this has to be the area we can save money on.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
Popping in to update food/petrol spends.
Food - £71.65
Petrol - £30.21
Also had a t3sco statement through earlier and we have £75 worth of points already. I think we may use them towards holidays/days out/treats rather than doubling up on toys as I tend to buy things I ordinarily couldn't justify and the end result is the same - a waste of money!
dd commented that things she had for Christmas she has played with one (i.e. a cr4yola set) so I advised her to be very careful about what she puts on her list! :rotfl:
She has also asked for a guitar for her birthday and I found one sold locally last week for £5. It is still in the boot of my car as don't have any hiding places anymore.
Haven't been particularly busy today but I feel worn out, my mind/body must know it's Friday! A couple of glasses of wine will go down very nicely this evening.
Have a good evening everyone

Thanks MG. We do all eat cabbage, it's one of the few veg that DH will eat actually. If they don't take up too much room I would love to give them a go. Thanks so much!
No problem - if you pm me your address I'll send some out to you next week.

The wine was enjoyed. Not sure I am ready to give up Friday vino :rotfl:
Well, it has been a spendy but lovely weekend. We had a trip to the beach on Saturday but had to pay for NT parking! Our membership expired a week ago. We are going to re-join so DH can take the children to local places whilst he is off and we will be visiting this beach again. We enjoyed it so much we have booked a weekend break at a nearby H4ven. We have booked privately so for the 3 nights it is only £200 including. passes.
I have also paid the balance on our CP holiday. Next thing to do will be to look at activities (if any). I am sure my 2 will be happy with playgrounds and the pool.
I really wish payday was a week sooner. We both get paid the end of next week. I have £25 in my purse and nothing in the bank! Might need to do some money shuffling, CB goes in tomorrow but I already have plans for that.
Right, I'm off to find some motivation and tackle the housework and de-cluttering! I have high hopes and am fuelled by coffee!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -

Hi diamonds, thanks for popping in. Do you have a diary?
We are first timers but have heard such good things apart from the expense. We will eat in most of the time and just spend on snacks and ice creams.
We spent the afternoon at a local NT property and have rejoined but opted to pay by dd. we were going to book some activities for the children to do when DH is off with them to break the day up but renewing our membership offers us far better value for money. I'm hoping to take them for a picnic tomorrow.
Managed to do a little decluttering amd sorted out the bedding in the airing cupboard. I'm a bit annoyed I seem to have misplaced one of DS school jumpers. They were given to me and I definitely had 2 to begin with. I keep putting off the uniform shop. I think Mr S have 25% off next week but not sure it's worth waiting in case everything goes.
I am only buying what they need though. Does everyone else buy everything new?
