Thanks Al. Missed dd appointment this morning which didn't actually cause any stress, just disappointed to have missed it. Paid £25 into each of the children's savings accounts. Have paid £50 into my ISA so am now officially invested! :)

Stress caused by children who don't listen, spoil days out and constantly push boundaries. Made me question how we are doing as parents today. We have children who simply don't listen and at times are unruly and disrespectful. dd came downstairs twice after going to bed with creative excuses.

Had a low spend day today, £2.70 on ice creams at the zoo and £1.50 on bananas. The wine is staying in the fridge so it's a shame I can't deduct it off our shopping bill! :rotfl:

Thanks Helen. Hoping for a better day today. Guess these feelings are expected along the way to see them through into adulthood and beyond!

Did go for a quick run yesterday and struggled again. Did read an interesting article yesterday why running and alcohol don't mix so might give it up (the wine!) for a while. No wine for me last night and DH had a very small glass which finished off a bottle. I don't care for it at all Sun-Thurs so won't think about it until Friday.

Plan to show DH the calculators on the monevator site later to work out our plans. Is £50 a month for 20 years or £100 a month for 10 years a better plan for us? We need to see some figures to see where we would like to be at that time.

Am currently invested in an 80% equity so may balance it out with a 60% like our guru on here. Not sure I will ever truly understand investing but if I can make a little money I am happy with that.

    Well done on the wine.

Why do running and wine not mix?
It sounds like perfectly normal kid behaviour to me. Parents who doubt themselves are not the ones to worry about IMHO!

The article covered 7 main reasons and it made me realise that my Saturday morning run is poorly timed!

    1. Dehydration which increases risk of cramps, strains and feeling weary.
    2. Low blood sugar levels.
    3. Wine being empty calories.
    4. Effect on sleep patterns
    5. Alcohol can stunt muscle growth
    6. Can cause irregular heart rate
    7. Slows down recovery. Liver busy dealing with the alcohol but is also there to help you recover from exercise, it can't do both.

I just used to run to burn off the calories, didn't think any more of it really. I have maintained my weight so maybe will lose a couple of lbs too.

    Thanks Al x

They weren't bored, hungry or tired which I know are key triggers. Perhaps they are just high maintenance! :rotfl:Full days out don't seem appropriate for them at the moment and I think they would rather just go to the park.

Homework challenge later. For a bright girl dd has a really poor attention span with homework so it gets done in lots of stages!

DH does this thing with the kids where he tries to put right every little niggle (e.g. wrong cereal bowl). He does it with the best intentions, but the more he tries to please them the stroppier they get. I think they feel insecure, they need him to say that the wrong cereal bowl is not a big deal, get on with it.

The more he tries to please them the more they demand.
  • Well done on the running Cath! Will be interested to see how much difference going wine free makes. I find some days I can keep going for ages over an hour (ages to me!) And others 20 mins feels like a marathon! No idea what makes the difference for me!

Re kids agree sounds normal pushing but hard work nonetheless! :) well done on resisting wine after a hard day! X

Thanks both. You're right Al, ours meltdown at the slightest thing, dd especially.

Well done on your running tyo, I'm not doing as much as I was but hoping cutting down on wine will help.

Have had a good day :)

DH did 7.5 hours overtime then as soon as he got in took the children to the park to give me a break. I went for a bath and he did some baking! I have worked hard too, tidied front garden, we have a large hedge that needs majorly cutting back. Let's just say I made a start :o

We switched broadband suppliers this month and I'm not too impressed. Initial switchover fine but we can't access online service properly. We need an account number which they will only provide in a letter for £6. Also our usage is not unlimited and doesn't seem to go far as they have emailed me to let me know usage so far this month. Fingers crossed the cashback tracks quickly and my prepaid card also arrives.

I will ring them when I get home from work tomorrow. Managed to clear some other admin tasks earlier which has decluttered the breakfast bar.

All in all, not a bad day. I am however tired all day everyday which is making me a bit fed up. Part amd parcel,of having children who wake by 6am daily and a stressful full time job too? Tried drinking more water today in case it's dehydration. Hasn't made an awful lot of difference.

  • No wonder you are tired, you have a lot to be dealing with. As a granny now, my top parenting tip is to never offer choices to under tens. It only leads to issues....
