Good family areas to rent in East/South East London

Hi guys
I'd be really grateful for any advice. My family are currently looking to rent a 3/4-bed house within easy commuting distance of the Docklands but I have little local knowledge of East/ South East London. Our budget is around £1,600pcm but we could stretch to £1,800 for a really lovely place. We have a fondness for period properties but the really important thing is that the property is near to green space and is family friendly with good children centre /primary schools in the area -(we have a 18 mnth old boy). Any recommendations for areas to explore or areas that should be avoided at all costs gratefully received.
Thank you
Mini

Brockley in SE London may be worth a look. Good value and gentrifying rapidly.0

Where are you based now? At that monthly rent I think you'd be lucky to find a three-bed flat although I don't understand why you think you'd need a 3/4-bed house when you appear to only have one child.
Wanstead is nice and family-friendly although not a ten-minute commute to Docklands.0 -

The OP doesn't say she only has an 18 month old, she may also have other children/relatives who live with her."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -
Hi - great suggestions so far thank you so much - please keep 'em coming. We do only have one child but we'd like to have a room for Granny and Granddad to stay when they come to visit us and ideally an office space too as I work from home).

Crystal Palace is nice-there is a big park which is great for kids, and lots of independent shops and nice restaurants. The East London Overground line goes direct to Canada Water/Docklands from Crystal Palace station.

Greenwich is on the Docklands line and lovely. Probably out of that price range though. Westcombe Park is two stops up on the train or a bus ride away from Greenwich and also very nice and more affordable.

Try Forest Hill, SE23. Nice area suitable for families and houses for rent under your budget! Good transportation links to Docklands with the new London Overground service via Canada Water.0
