Telephone line seizure

OP, is your existing line already LLU'd by Pipex? Dial 17070, you will get a message 'this no. is defined as 01234...'. then if you then get a series of numbered options, 'for BT Quiet Line test press 2' etc, your line is still on the BT network (non LLU), and you can do a transfer once you have your MAC. If you don't get those options, it has been LLU'd and you cannot go direct to TT, you have to take your number back to BT first. This is free on a return to donor. but you have to take 12m line rental, once your line is transferred back to BT you can then place your broadband.
You cannot go straight from one LLU network to another.

Hi. Thanks for the reply. Done the 17070 and got the BT voice re my telephone number and the test optons etc.

I was given to understand that my line was with Pipex, to whom Im paying line rental.

This seems to be getting more complicated by the minute, as the TT Essentials package is only available to me if I pay them the line rental, as part of the package makeup.

So is it possible that my line has been handed back over to BT from Pipex in order for TT to get me connected.

Thanks for the patience. Regards Allen

It just means Pipex are re-selling BT line rental to you (known as WLR) instead of having installed their own equipment at the BT exchange (known as LLU), not that it has been 'handed back over to BT'.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

The fact that you pay your line rental to Pipex doesn't mean that your line is LLU'd to them. It appears that your line is not LLU and so still on the BT network. Therefore you should transfer your service by the usual means of a MAC.
Which is what TT should have told you from the outset.

Hi again. Sorry but ive another question. If my line is now back with BT Im presuming that I will get a letter from them informing me that another provider wants to take over my line, at my request.

The reason Im asking is that Ive just seen a BT line rental deal which is available until the end of October, whereby an upfront payment of £113.88 nets a monthly payment of only £9.49 for twelve months.

Im going to make enquiries if the above is available to me and if so Ill get me broadband from some other ISP.

The plan involves taking out a BT calling plan but does'nt make any referance to BB.

    Regards. Allen.

Your line isn't 'back with BT'. It has never been away. You just paid your line rental to Pipex.

    Hi Allen,

I presume you are now confident on the difference between LLU and WLR.

To clarify for yourself an internet search of the terms "Local Loop Unbundling" and "Wholesale Line Rental" will find numerous resources that will explain how this works.

However AS established above it looks as if your on WLR with Pipex. As such there is nothing that would prevent you from connecting to TT.

If you have a TalkTalk account number as provided in your welcome pack if you register on the TalkTalk members forum we can investigate into this and advise you further
