Telephone line seizure

Hi.

Can someone out there help me with this one. On the 26th July 2010 I arranged with Pipex my current ISP to be transfered to the TalkTalk Essentials package.

Im still waiting for my line to be connected and the welcome pack from TT.

After numerous phone calls to TT and been told a variety of reasons for the delay, neither of which included the one below, I finally spoke to a lady who informed me that Pipex had not released my phone line, in effect there was a seizure on it. (Her words).

Anybody had any similar dealings. Help please. Regards Allen.

Welcome to the MSE forums allengrant.

You are obviously getting the runaround and, as Tiscali took over Pipex in September 2007 and then Tiscali was taken over by the Carphone Warehouse (Talk Talk) group in May 2008 (i.e. you're trying to move from one part of Talk Talk to another), it's difficult to understand why.

I'd take it as a warning!
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    Hi.

Thanks for the warning. It all started when a bloke came to the door and informed that free broadband was now available in Whitby.
Im paying Pipex £9.99 for 8mb BB. I was told that I could get 14mb.
Pipex suggested I transfer to TT Essentials.

Despite having a TT account number and a direct debit entry on me bank account, Im still no nearer to being connected.

I went for the savings but it seems it might have blown up in my face.

Im seriously looking now at Plus Net and Primus package. But I have awful feelings about getting my mac code off Pipex.
    Thanks and regards. Allen.

As they say, 'beware strangers bearing gifts'.
And that includes dodgy TT reps telling you that broadband is 'free'. It's not.

    HI Allenagrant,

If you are a Pipex customer then you should have no trouble in transferring between Pipex and TalKTalk.

To clarify TalkTalk not a part of the Carphone Warehouse group any longer, we operate as entirely separate entities. As the PIpex brand still trades separately as part of the TT group we are differentiated at a network level. I cannot advise you on the Pipex aspect of your service but provided the relevant orders are laced correctly there should be no problem completing the transfer. Pipex may be able to advise you further on the reasons they did not release your phone line when the order was received. It may just be the case you are required to sign up again to generate a new order to complete the change.

    Regards

The use of semantics in business gives wriggle room where previously there was none.

Is that the same as saying that the Talk Talk representative's post was made up entirely of what I would call company b*ll*ck speak. :D

    Hi All,

To clarify if anyone feels my rely was too "jargon" based.

There is no reason why a transfer from Pipex to TalkTalk will not complete as we are seperate companies.

If this is a WLR transfer a MAC code will be required as part of the Transfer. If the Pipex supply is via LLU this will require a return to donor via BT first.

    Regards

Hi. Im a bit lost with the last paragraph. I pay my line rental to Pipex. I recall being told that I did'nt need my Mac code to transfer.

Please would you elaborate on the WLR and the LLU bit, when convenient.

    Thanks in anticipation. Allen.

OP, is your existing line already LLU'd by Pipex? Dial 17070, you will get a message 'this no. is defined as 01234...'. then if you then get a series of numbered options, 'for BT Quiet Line test press 2' etc, your line is still on the BT network (non LLU), and you can do a transfer once you have your MAC. If you don't get those options, it has been LLU'd and you cannot go direct to TT, you have to take your number back to BT first. This is free on a return to donor. but you have to take 12m line rental, once your line is transferred back to BT you can then place your broadband.
You cannot go straight from one LLU network to another.
