Hi I am looking to buy a laptop, its going to be mostly used fro completing my studies and internet.
    Hi Jane,
Any new laptop would do you - they are all capable of doing much more than you need. If budget is important then you should be able to pick up a good used IBM Thinkpad T23 on eBay for below £200 (make sure you get one with a working battery). Looks aren't to everyone's taste but they're made of titanium and will last for ages!
    Can I help?

Personally I wouldnt buy a laptop or computer from ebay at all, pay a little extra and get a warranty at your local store.

I got a Dell refurbished laptop from ebay last year for £369, only lasted 3 months and the hard disk failed, will never do that again.

Wouldn't it need some kind of TV card... or am I misunderstanding how digital works?
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

I bought a HP laptop for £150, private sale but I checked out his feedback and went and picked up the laptop in person, it worked out to be a good deal. The only problem was it got stolen from my house a few weeks later, so I'm glad I didn't spend a lot more on a new one. JUST BE CAREFUL. I'm currently looking for another one on ebay, for my son.

Many eBay sellers offer a warranty equivalent to those from "local stores". Saying you wouldn't buy one from eBay is a bit like saying you wouldn't buy one from Comet in Stevenage because you had trouble with one bought at the car boot sale :)
It's the seller who matters, not the venue.

I bought my current lappy, a dell c600, 5 years ago on eBay! At the time it was 5 months old. It has just been brilliant. But I took about 2 months researching models, sellers especially, and asked loads of questions. I proceeded with extreme caution and was frankly quite nervous about buying it off eBay. The post above about doing your homework thoroughly is really important! (I had also looked at Yahoo auctions, now defunct, but it was awash with shillers!)
