Are Unbranded phones Unlocked?

Hey there,

I need some help in my money saving endeavours!

I am planning on purchasing a brand new, unopened HTC desire for £275!!

The seller has told me that the phone is an unwanted upgrade from vodaphone. He has confirmed the phone is completely unbranded, I am assuming its probably through 3rd party such as carphone warehouse.

As the phone is unbranded, does this mean the phone is unlocked to all networks? I will be using my Orange contract sim card.

If its from vodafone, I would have thought it would probably not be unbranded - the software on it is likely to be something vodafone customised for themselves. Just my experience of vodafone.

Unbranded does not mean unlocked - although its unlikely to be locked to vodafone I think.

Thats the best answer to be honest. Its unlocked most of the time however this is not always the case.

Look at it like it is branded means the operator has customized the firmware to show their start up screen and any extra apps .
Locked means the phone is locked to a provider usually the supplying network .

Last phone Nokia 5800 on Virgin PAYG from CPW No Virgin Branding and Unlocked . Long wait for new firmware as it was still through Virgin .

Current phone Samsung Galaxy O2 shop PAYG Phone is branded to O2 but its not locked .
