Interesting that a blog from the Mirror appears second on the list when u search "wentworth finance" on google http://blogs.mirror.co.uk/investigations/2010/04/we-get-refund-from-loan-outfit.html

I simply cannot believe that anyone who uses Wentworth Finance bothers to google them first. You don't even need to click on the links on the first page of results to see that they are a bunc of scam-merchants. In fact, if you search for 'Wentworth Finance', you get three results pointing out what crooks they are, before you get their own site! Sadly, as KingElvis says, there are a lot of desperatepeople out there.
  • Hi, I too have had a bad experience with Wentworth Direct, we were going to take a loan with them, then at the last minute we decided that it was not for us and sent all the paper work back saying we didn;t want the loan and no to go ahead with anything, at the end of that money when we were on our online banking we noticed that they had taken the £59 out of our account without our consent !

I contacted them straight away and they said that i needed to write in and request my money back from the refunds department, so i did and sent the letter recorded delivery over a week ago and have heard nothing since, i have tried to call them and jujsgt ended up on the phone for over an hour and a half.

Can anyone advise what the next step is i should take as i am worried i am not going to recieve my money back and this caused charges in our biulling account as we hadn't accounted for this money leaving our account !

Didn't you budget for any loan repayments coming out at all?

Let's just imagine you did take a loan, how were you going to repay it? I would guess any loan would have had a higher repayments than £59 per Month.

I wouldn't bother trying to ring them, you are just paying even more money through call fees. You have spent over an hour and a half paying for each and every minute.
How much more than the £59 have you given them now?

They must be jumping for joy every time you ring, even if you did manage to speak to someone they will only fob you off.

For your own benefit, STOP GIVING THEM MORE MONEY!!

In their own T&C's they say it can take 30 days from receipt of the refund request, you only sent it a week ago.

Just for info...how on earth did you end up going anywhere near them? what attracted you to them in the first place??
  • Hi Apples2,

I hAdn't planned on giving them anything let alone the £59 !!

I cancelled all the transactions between us, there was not paper work filled in just a conversation over the phone, then they sent paper work out for us to sign saying that then and only then would they take the money, !

This turned out not to be the case!

WE DID NOT FILL IN FORMS OR GIVE OUR CONSENT TO TAKE ANY MONEY !!!

Are you advising me that it could be nearly a month before they refund our monies?

Yes that is correct, in their own T&C's it could take a Month but similar companies can take up to 6 Months.

Here is a bit from their T&C's
For our services there is a brokers fee charged which is payable by you the client for the use of our services as a broker. This is charged as an up front fee. Fees are payable by cheque, postal order or credit/debit card. We accept payments in writing as well as verbally in the case of you paying by card. When you the client send payment of the brokers fee you will ensure that there are sufficient funds in your account for the relevant amount to clear. If your payment does not clear we reserve the right not to process your loan details further. We accept payment from you in good faith on the understanding that those funds will clear.

Under Financial Services (Distance Marketing) Regulations 2004 you have a right to cancel your application within 14 days of receiving these terms and conditions and receive repayment of the fee. If you wish to cancel your application, you must write to Wentworth Direct Finance notifying us. In this event the amount will be returned within 30 days of the date on which we receive your written request to cancel your application. You the client may also, at any time, within six months cancel the agreement if you so wish, in this event the brokers fee will be refunded to you within a reasonable time, not exceeding 30 days, from the date of cancellation in writing, minus a £5 admin charge.
You did give consent to take the money, the second they had your details you authorised them to take the money as part of acting as your Broker.

The Fee was never supposed to be attached to a Loan, it is their fee for them acting on your behalf.... a complete scam if you like.

I say again, how did you end up going anywhere near them, surely nobody recommended them and google shows it to be a scam from the outset
  • Hi Apples2,

My husband did a google search as have never been through a loan company for poor credit history before and thought we would try them, but then before we signed anything we sent all the paper work back and said NO !!!!!

Wish i had NEVER set eyes on them !!!!!!

There are very few companies prepared to lend to someone with a poor credit history, very very few. Out of those few who will lend, you are only looking at a few hundred pounds if it is unsecured.

Don't give out ANY details especially not your bank account details to ANYONE without fully researching first.

You need to understand if you are dealing with a broker or a lender, if it all gets a bit confusing, just make a post on here and give the name of the company, there are loads of members who will do the leg work for you and advise accordingly.

THE list just grows and grows and grows and grows and grows...one day the sheeple will wake up..after xfactor
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.
  • They tried to get the £59 from me too. He tried confirming 100 times that I was not approved on his side alone, it was infact with a lender already (who's name wasnt visible to him yet until I paid the £59) and I was 100% confirmed to get the loan. He gave me the repayment amounts over the respective terms and made me select a date to have the £59 to come out of my account.
I googled the company while on the phone with them. Told him the bad reviews I was reading and he had a 'valid' reason saying those were the people that werent approved or were unable to confirm their employment etc. What a liar!

So now I have to try and get back to them to cancel my agreed date for the £59. Oh boy. I wonder if anyone even has got any money from these people before. You never seem to get anyone on forums telling you about their good experiences. Only the bad or failed ones. Thats a shame.

@Apples2 - I never contacted these people directly. All it took was ONE online application with minimal details given and what followed was an onslought of phone calls and emails and texts from numerous loan companies. Most saying that I've been approved! And must call just for ID purposes. So I'm guessing others fell victim that way too.

Not the best written English I have seen ^^^. :rotfl:

Great news, recieved a cheque from Wentworth in the post today for £59, hand written from a Lloyds account, which makes me think the company is even more dodgy. In the letter I sent via recorded delivary, as Apples stated. I threatened Wentworth that I would take legal action & contact the trading standards (in whom I lied and said a relative whom worked for them )

So happy to have recieved this back today, popping into the bank, lets just hope the cheque will clear!

If anybody ever needs any help with their refund and would like me to email them the letter template that I sent Wentworth let me no.

Learn from my mistake, never to cross paths with loans companies before doing extensive checks on them.

hi just wondering if you could send me details of the letter you sent to wentworth as i have just been looking at my hubbys bank account and they have taken money out of his which he said about 3/4 weeks ago that he wanted nothing to do with them..
thanks very much for your help :)
