    I. Technically its not "stolen" either so no help in calling it that either.

    .

    how do you know?

if what the op says is true and the "product" or service as the case may be, was advertised as a lifetime membership for a one off £25 fee and then the company fraudulently charged a further £2,500 to the op's card then the funds were most certainly stolen.

fraudulently charging someones card is theft. FACT!

Ok so I was fast to assume this as we haven't yet confirmed whether or not the site is run by scammers. However, my statement was based on common sense and the most likely outcome. I.E. £2500 is simply £25.00 without a decimal point. So its probable that this was a human/software error. In which case there is no theft.

Of course it could be dishonest appropriation, but I see no reasons for them to stop at £2500. Why not take more.

I also suggest you read what theft is. "Fraud" has a far to ambiguous use to label it theft. IF this is a mistake, many people would call it a "fraudulent" transaction (including myself), but its certainly not theft.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

yes fraud and theft are not the same thing, fraud is more misrepresentation, but to fraudulently charge someones debit card under the fraudulent claim (to the bank) that this action was authourised by the account holder amounts to an act of theft.

fraud does not automatically equate to theft, but to fraudulently charge somesone's bank account does equate to theft.

    No it doesnt.

Like i said, if this is a mistake, then i would say its a fraudulent transaction (ie one that was not authorised) but its not theft.

Maybe its best to refer to it as possible theft, or unauthorised transaction seeing as we have different ideas of what fraud is due to its ambiguity.

I still believe its not theft though, it just screams mistake because of the amounts we're dealing with.

If it was an honest mistake why hasn't £2475 been returned to OP by now by the Company who have had it for at least 6 weeks. I do agree the OP needs to provide more details about the Company, ie just what he signed up for, how long ago, what contact they've had with said Company in order to resolve the matter etc

OP hasn't said whether or not he has actually contacted the company who 'took' the money, only that he was contacted his bank ;)

  • I am a student, up till the money was stolen I was about £1000 in credit.

You would have been better off attending school instead of giving details to every dodgy girlie site.

Still, schools are back today, that should help
