silly question, do house sales always complete on a Friday?

May be a bit of a blonde question, sorry!
Our chain consists of us buying a new build, and selling our house to someone who is in rented, so would we still complete on a Friday, or is it up to us?
thanks

up to you (and your buyer).0

It is traditional to complete on a Friday but not compulsory. Long chains often go on a Friday because that is what everyone is expecting. But if everyone in your chain is happy with another day, there can be a lot of advantages - EAs and sols aren't tied up completing other chains that day, removals companies more likely to be available because everyone else wants them on Friday, etc. Go for whatever suits you and your chain. Probably what suits you really as long as it is after the new build is ready and before your buyer has to vacate their property!0

No, it is completely up to your chain to agree (we completed on a Wednesday).
Many people like to complete on a Friday because - if in a chain - people will move the day that they complete: so if you move on a Friday, it gives you the whole weekend to get the house together before returning to work on the Monday....

Thanks for the speedy responses, good to know we're not tied to a Friday. Our new house is ready (we should have completed last week, long story), so we could just do it as soon as possible after the Land Registry grant us our garden, and stop holding us up.0

As soon as you complete you can move into your new property. Not sure what the problem is with your garden and the Land Registry, but that should really have been sorted out before exchanging. I've never heard of anyone completing with a problem pending.
As others have said, Friday is the traditional day to complete - for various reasons. I doubt you could complete on a Saturday or Sunday, though, as conveyancing solicitors don't usually work at weekends......nor banks/estate agents. But there's nothing stopping you completing in the weekday and moving into your new empty property whenever you wish to. Maybe even a month later! What you must do, however, is move out of the property you've sold as soon as completion has taken place.0 -
I never complete on a Friday as it's easier (and often cheaper) to get removal companies during the week.0

We've not exchanged yet, we got to the day of exchange and the fact that out garden isn't shown properly on the Land Regisrty became an issue. We pointed this out to our solicitor on first contact with him to be told "it won't be a problem", now we have a 3 week wait whilst Land registry sort it out, we're claiming possesory title as have owned the property over 12 years, but all the neighbours have 15 working days to complain.
I work from home so for me a Friday would be best for minimising disruption, but might push for a Thursday if we can, that way the removal men might be able to squeeze us in at last minute (they had to be canceled last week!)0 -
We completed on a Monday. The removals were cheaper."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

That's because most people complete and move on a Friday.:)
So what in your opinion makes it EASIER to move on a diferent weekday? And do tell us of these removal firms who charge less to move on a different day - all the ones I know charge exactly the same price irrespective of what day you're moving. After all, petrol costs the same all weeek long!0 -

I think the poster means that its easier to get removals and move during the week than it is organising a company for a Friday at short notice. Around here a lot of companies will do deals for you to move on a weekday rather than a Friday too.£2 Savers Club #156!
Looking for holiday ideas for 2016. Currently, Isle of Skye in March, Riga in May, Crete in June and Lake District in October. August cruise cancelled, but Baby due September 2016! :j0
