Can anyone recommend a good rural location within M25 where we might be able to buying a 4 bed detached house without stretching our budget?

You may well struggle within the M25. I'm in Essex and there are villages close to the M25 but still outside it where your budget would be tight. On the other hand, as you move further from the M25 the prices drop reasonably quickly.
