Sky: Moving Home - Cancel then renew?

Hi,
I'm planning on moving home in the very near future (hopefully getting the keys today!)
Anyway, I have Sky+ at my current house (my old house) and it is signed up in my name with all the stuff. (Line rental, sky broadband etc)
Now, I hear they charge £40 quid for moving home and taking my sky to my new address (and as the new address doesn't have a phone line i expect some sort of charge for that too £39 quid according to their website) totally an outlay of £79 quid
But if you look at quidco - you can get it all installed for pretty much free if you use the "new customer" route - and get upto £80 quid cashback to boot (for the HD packages)
So my question is this:
Can't I just cancel my current subscription and packages saying I'm moving abroad or something... I believe I'm out of contract (i've certainly had it more than 12 months)
And then get my missus to sign up at our new address using her personal bank details. (She's never been a sky customer)
Has anyone done this and are you aware of any pitfalls? (Or obvious gotchas that I should avoid)
Thanks in advance!

Sounds plausible, but I sometimes wonder if it's better to keep the sky box you have rather than get a new one? Sometimes "better the devil you know", then again I have been plagued by box problems over the years, so a little biased....maybe you get more disk space in newer sky+ boxes, or maybe you want HD?
Interesting to see if others tried this idea? The "Moving abroad" line will be interesting with those chatty scottish girls asking where, why etc..;)0 -

Well I was thinking pro's for this:
New box, (my old one isn't broke, but a new one would be nice)
New dish, new cables
Maybe HD? dunno
Cashback, M&S vouchers, cheaper monthly costs!
I just can't think of any cons.. Apart from putting it in my missus's name and not being able to sneakily add sky sports every now and then.
As for the "moving abroad" line I might tone it back and say I'm moving in somewhere with sky already... Good point!

Good points, just check with others more knowledgeable than I that you DO always get a brand new one.ScrewYouHippy wrote: »Well I was thinking pro's for this:

I did exactly this, i even re signed up with all the same bank details and name, when i left i just said i was moving home with my parents due to hard times and they already have sky, 3 days later i signed up at my new address and it was all installed no problem, i even used a best buy half price for a year offer!:beer:0

I would go for new customer/box and get old box installed as multi-room.0

But if you go for new customer, you're tied into a 12 month contract and have to be connected to the phone line as well.0

That's exactly what we did. Hubby lived with me before we were married and the sky was in my name. We then bought a house together, I cancelled my subscription and then re-ordered it through hubby's name.
My flat had a shared dish and I would have had to pay for new installation etc....this way we got free installation and all the special offers. Worked a treat.
Except now I can't call them to cancel Sky Sports. Whatcha gonna do?0 -
Thanks for the advice everyone!
I took the plunge and decided to phone Sky this morning to cancel, they were practically begging me to stay..
I said I was moving in with my girlfriend's parents whilst we were homeless (a white lie) - and they proceeded to offer me an entire half price year if I took my old box and had an install at their house!
I think the guy was puzzled by my reluctance to accept! (I can't go installing sky at the outlaws house! they might object) - and it was a real conversation to get it to just cancel...
Gonna re-sign up with my missus's details tomorrow0 -

WO!!! Slow down. You need to give 30 days notice to cancel, no? So you will be paying twice for one month if you sign up too quickly, I would think:eek: and you still have 30 days use left, no?0
