It's the highest capital in Europe.
Best bet is to look at the Madrid forum on Trip Advisor.
You've probably got several questions, and there'll be resident experts there to answer them objectively.

I think many people get higher in Amsterdam!

Krakow and Budapest gets my vote at that time of year. Both have Christmas markets.
Krakow had some great deals on accomodation and meals when we were there late last November
Budapest has some good spas and lots of good sight seeing.

I wish I'd kept the wording of my nomination as simple as yours;)

I've got long legs, and springs in my feet;)

    Forthcoming jaunts start next weekend:

    - A week in a caravan in Morecambe. My first game at the 'Shrimps' brand new ground.

    - Then a night at the Royal Kings Arms in Lancaster. I love Lancaster, and it's got two Wetherspoons!

    - Week after 4 nights in a caravan in Burnham-on-Sea. Got the deal off here!

    - Beginning of November, 3 weeks D-i-Ying it round Tunisia. I've got a thobe and the missus an abaya, so we can blend in with the locals!
  • I second the suggestion of a northern lights holiday - that is sooo romantic!
Head to Tromso in Northern Norway, or take a northern lights cruise with Hurtigruten, or perhaps book a night in the ice hotel where Joanna Lumley stayed in the Northern LIghts documentary.
iglobetrotter.com is a good place to get ideas and find out what packages are out there from different providers.

    best of luck!
