Hi,
My wife and I are celebrating 5 yrs in mid December and as I have some euros left from summer holiday . Was thinking of going for a city break , was initially looking at Madrid, Barcelona , Venice (not sure with flooding in december) or somewhere like that.
Any Ideas or opinions ? which would be nice around christmas time

Hi,
We went to Prague for our 1st Wedding Anniversary and we absolutely loved it. Stayed in a hotel called Hotel Jozef - was probably one of the best I have ever stayed in. Booked flights with Ryan air but I dont think they go to Prague now. Booked our airport transfer with prague airport transfers ( I think!) and they provide you with a free walking tour voucher which was well worth it! We went when the Easter markets were all out and it was fantastic, so I guess if you go near xmas they will have the markets out again. We also did one of the ghost walking tour at night - very fun! Would definately reccommend it there.
Although have just noticed you mentioned euros and Prague do not use the Euro so maybe this isnt the right place for you but after writing all of the above I will post it anyway!

If you like christmas markets etc you might want to consider Germany. Places like Cologne have very nice christmas markets and are romantic.
You could also consider Rome which has festivals starting from the 8th of December.0 -
I would second Prague. We were there last December and loved it. Quite compact and easy to walk round - can be a bit on the cold side though! The Christmas markets looked great all lit up.Today is the first day of the rest of your life0

Barcelona could be reasonable weather in December compared with northern Europe and plenty to see and do there.
If you want somehwere Christmassy then as others have said some of the German or maybe Austrian towns may be worth a look. Vienna is supposed to be lovely especially near Christmas time
If you want sun then maybe Cyprus or Greece may offer the best chance of reasonable weather in Euro zone
South of France is also nice so maybe somewhere like Nice and also take in Monaco and Italian borders. We stayed in Bandol a few years ago further back along that coast and had a lovely winter break
How was France?0 -
Venice is lovely and in the winter it won't smell and the tourists should be more manageable, although yes, you may have problems with the high water. Venice is one of my favourite places. I have been there in winter but never been unlucky enough to have seen the high water, although I have seen the arrangements including raised walkways that they have for it and wouldn't let that stop me. I would stay in Venice, probably Cannereggio, as it is so nice in the evening.
Prague is lovely too, and although prices have gone up I still think fairly reasonable.
Barcelona is also great and there you would get a bit of sun and warmth - by this I mean you could wear a jumper instead of a coat, but warmer than the UK. Venice and Prague feel about the same temeprature as the UK, maybe colder. (I'm generalising wildly, based on the weeks I was there which might have been good or bad weather for the time of year.)0 -
Go further afield and get your Christmas shopping done in New York.0

Krakow, beautiful city, and very cheap and the christmas markets are lovely.0

Venice....every time, so romantic, stay in the Abbazia deluxe canal front suite with bath overlooking the bridge, negotiate on price, or they often upgrade free if it is a special occasion.0
