Orange Reject My Application

I tried to get an Orange contract today, went through the whole process online to get a student contract, but then they rejected me because of my credit rating?

Why is this, I've never had any problems with getting accounts and I've never had a credit card and never been in any debt. So what has caused them to reject my credit rating??

Not having a credit rating is just as bad as having a bad one. They want to know your history with credit. I signed up to o2 a few times and kept getting rejected then I tried again a month later and it all worked fine.

Apply from your perminant address and make sure you are on the electoral role there. If this is already the case you might have more luck with 3, they supposedly have less stringent checks.

Also get the student credit card your bank offer and use it to pay for everything and pay it off monthly as opposed to using your debit card, you will receive more portection as well as build your credit rating. Phones usually require the least history as they are not considered the same as other forms of credit by banks although they are of course a liability.

Another way to build some credit at university would be to be the person in the house responsible for paying the bills as you will be making payments to utility companies.
  • i find getting on the electoral role does wonders when being a student
  • i am on the electoral role :)

also...make sure you always give an accurate "time with bank" and "time at address" as they will check with experian during a credit check

if you wanna boost your credit rating there are many ways, im sure they are discussed in depth on this site somewhere :)

if you couldn't get a contract first time, you could try again and if it goes through to the orange connection team in india (1 in 2 connections go there)...you are more likely to get accepted for some silly reason

I have 14 orange contract in my name...hoping to cancel most of them soon though :D

    Why 14? That's loads!! :)

Mine went through OK a couple of years ago, and that was when I had no credit history...
  • I have no experience of Orange, but I do think that being on the electoral roll and having some form of credit card is essential for students...

Even if they don't use the CC, it all adds up in terms of building a credit history and can be invaluable when they graduate and actually need access to decent credit!

Couldn't agree more... My bank gave me this advice some 11 years ago when I started my first degree...

Only do it if you're not a 'reckless spender' though - get in trouble with it, and you're screwed...

I have had mobile contracts with all the top companies . Out of all of them, Orange were the only company who were a bit funny with me applying for a contract and wanted me to fax them over some bills and driving license. They do seem to be the strictest IMO when it comes to credit checks.

I know 15 year olds who have orange student contracts pretending to be older that they are who have been accepted
