Vodafone and Phones4u

Hey Everyone! Newbie alert haha!

Me and my parents are all on contract with O2 right now, but are thinking of moving to Vodafone because they have better signal, and I was wondering what's the number to call to get a good deal with Vodafone? I just want see if they could match our current O2 contracts.

And also, I looked on Phones4u website, and lots of their phones have both half price line rental and money off redemption, does that mean you get both the half price line rental and the redemption or do you have to choose to have just one of them? *Sorry, really don't know much about mobile contracts...haha*

Thank you soooooo much! :-) :-)

^.^

Redemption deals are a minefield unless you are very organised and disciplined, although they are also very tempting and worthwhile if you adhere to the terms and conditions. IF you believe that either you or your parents are capable of sticking to the rules of the game then I would suggest checking out somewhere like mobiles.co.uk who have some very good deals but possibly have the worst reputation on this forum when it comes to redemption offers. In your situation, however, if you can live with O2 then I would suggest looking at giffgaff as you and your parents would get free calls and texts to each other if you all moved over to it. Giffgaff use the O2 network as a carrier.

BTW, you can only have one redemption deal with people like P4U and mobiles.co.uk. If you do go down this route then avoid the "free gifts" (X-Box, TV etc). These are only usually available with less desirable phones and the monthly tariff is artificially inflated to cover the cost of the item.

  • I'd avoid any redemption offers. As Ex states, they are a minefield - miss one date for sending in your bills and you get nothing.

I'd say your best bet would be to speak to or pop into your local Phones4U branch and look round at phones. See what they have on offer and try to have a play with some of the mobiles. Make sure you tell them you are only interested in Vodafone because of signal issues at home. Once you have their best offer, tell them you'll think about it and leave the shop.

Go to Carphone Warehouse and see what phones they have on offer. Again, find a phone you like and then say "Phones4U will let us have x minutes, y texts and z internet for £a. What can you offer?" and again, leave the shop once you've got their offer.

Phone Vodafone on 08080 044 423 (their sales freephone number) and tell them what your best offer is. Ask them to match or beat it.

This will then give you three offers to consider. It will allow you to make an informed decision on each one and make sure you've looked at phones to see which ones suit you.

Here are the things to remember:

    1. If you get a "smartphone", you need to have a data allowance included
    2. If you start to get pressured into buying a phone you don't want or on a network you don't want, be polite but leave the shop
    3. Don't go for what appears to be the best deal until you've had a chance to consider it properly and looked at the pitfalls
    4. Post back on here if you need help!!

Rule 4 is probably the most important.
In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move.

Whilst the rest is fair comment (apart from the fact that Phones4u/Mobiles2yourdoor are easy peasy and very reliable on redemption deals, unlike the others) the last part is totally untrue. There is no limit on the number of cashback deals with Phones4u and though cpw companies do have limits they are not that straightforward or limited. Some other dealers also limit to two deals, not one.

I obviously didn't make it clear but I meant per phone. When you buy a phone with mobiles.co.uk they make a point of telling you this in a little box you can click on. It may well be that this is still incorrect but I have given the information in the best faith and without any intention to mislead.

Thank you so so much for all your help everyone! I will go to carphone and phones4u today to compare their prices and let you guys know how it goes. :-) :-) BTW, phoned O2 today to cancel, and they couldn't offer me any deals at all! I wasn't fishing for better deals when I called, I truely wanted to cancel, but I remember when I wanted to cancel last time round they gave me half price on my current plan (400 mins, 1000 texts, free o2 o2 calls, free samsung soul, 18 month contract, £15 a month, £25 voucher), and this time they couldn't even offer me the same plan! Wonder what's going on with o2....
  • You won't find such good deals in the branches; plus you won't get the benefit of the 7 day cooling off period. However, cashback isn't to be recommended to those who aren't very experienced and knowledgable in any case.
