Part of the Furniture 10,000 Posts Combo Breaker Mortgage-free Glee!
Well, approximately a week after my last post, I had an Energywatch-prompted call from a very nice lady at BG, again telling me that things were being sorted out. She asked me to take a meter reading the following Monday, and she'd ring me for it.

Well, Monday came and went, but she rang me back today. Took the meter reading, rang me back with the current bill (only £6 outstanding having taken into account my payments) and offered me a £40 'goodwill gesture' cheque.

Am still waiting for my £70 cheque, have had a final bill from Electricity and Final from Bgas (also £6.00 - wonder if there is something in that Fay ????)

Am refusing to pay both bills until BGas confirm and take my first direct debit so I know for sure the change over has been made this time ............oh and until I have the £70 compo in my hand !!!!

B G(ahstly) cheques have a habit of "getting lost in the post" and they are reluctant to stop "lost" cheques until nearly a month has passed, and then the cycle of "hanging on the line" to their pathetic customer services, begins again.

They also swear blind that they do not have your money as it is yours as soon as the cheque is written!!!!!!!!!!!!!, such is their brainwashing.

  • Hi

I've been having a complete nightmare with British Gas too - have been without gas and heating for 10 days - see my posts on the vent board.

Please does anyone have a direct dial number for British Gas Head Office to bypass the call centre staff as all they do is cut you off - I've phoned countless times, emailed and written and still nothing is happening.

If someone has a number and could post it that would be a great help.

    Many thanks.

This is their "complaints management team number" from their website, 0845 955 5300.

    the H.O.is in Southampton, switchboard number 0238 082 4100.

0238 021 4650 is another customer service number that may help.

    Still waiting for refund here.

Update; its now 2007 (obviously) and although I received my compo cheque guess what......I still havn't got my changeover sorted out !!!!!!! Its just never ending. Received a letter saying "your £50 dd will come out on 28th Jan" Laughed as it was only meant to be £21.00 and by now have reached a point of hysteria again !

I then received a letter from the the customer service woman who has been easy to contact and more helpful than any of the other monkeys, saying there had been another problem and the changeover wouldn't be happening now until the beginning of feb with a view to taking the first dd at end of march.

I could only imagine that the reason for her letter instead of a phone call was because she was sick of me kicking off at her but ..........bovered !!!! So I picked the phone up to the lovely Joanne again and explained to her that a) my dd should only be £21.00 - she said yes thats right just disregard the letter and b) I want the dd taking asap and if the changeover happens as planned beg feb she would have plenty of time to set it up for 28th month. She said she will try her best.

I then received another letter asking for a new meter reading (I gave them one mid december when the changeover was due to happen beg january)

I really can't be bothered to go to the meter, I just can't be bothered !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know I have to and I know I have to phone them with it but I am just so very tired now - Iknow also I should at this point contact energy watch but its just becoming so terribly boring and irritating and I am getting married in July so what with hen weekends, dresses, bridesmaids, cars, photographers etc I just think there is more to life than phoning British Gas !!!!!!!!!!!
