New cusomer. NTL or other?

Hi all.

I`m after a broadband connection for my dad. He`s only going go be a jight user I expect. I was thinking NTL as he is in an NTL area and I have had no problems. After posting in the NTL thread I got this reply within minutes:
Sign up to it and get it installed first, then phone them and tell them your not happy with it, you'll be in a better bargaining position then as they've already paid to install it for you.

This is what I did, started with 1meg for £17.99, and within the first few days called up and managed to get half price 10meg at £17.50 for 12 months.

You could see if you could get half price 1meg so it would be £8.99.

So is this my best bet or what alternative would people suggest? Price being an important factor, speed much less so, reliability obviosly preferred, in which case customer service much less important.

Thanks

  • NTHELL are great right until you have a problem or want to disconnect (due to moving house), then they turn into a monsterous corporate entity that seems to suck in all your attempts to communicate with them (phone, email, contact forms, recorded letters) and convert it to yet more bills months post moving and stopping receiving their services.
  • Thanks for your reply Snow Dog. I`m with NTL and haven`t had any problems with them, so there still an option although I haven`t moved and experienced those problems.

I`m at Uni at the moment and NTL have a stand here where there offering the broadband connection and digital TV for £20 (not just for students). Seems like a good deal so I`ll look into it further. Also sky are offering Tv for £15 (1/2 price for 3 months) and the broadband for £5 for 2 gig usage and £10 for either 40 Gb or unlimited so I need to look into these, well NTL at least as my dad might enjoy the tv aswell. Although it may be best to look for a good deal on broadband alone, so maybe bulldog or newtech (new something or other) or ideally NTL price matching.
