I'll need to make OH something he can eat later on in the morning for his breakfast, he gets home between 9pm and 11pm so eats dinner very very late, and doesn't want to get up any earlier than he needs to go to work as he doesn't get much sleep at all! But something like a homemade cereal bar or something would be up his street.

I took advantage of Lidl's cheap fruit and veg yesterday and stocked up on what ever they had on offer. I also managed to get a whole chicken for £2.42! going to roast that tonight, make a soup from it, and also do a chicken pasta salad for lunches - as there is only 2 of us at home we'll only eat the breast for dinner tonight and can put the rest to good use.

I did some foraging yesterday...(at my in laws garden centre!) got some grapes, tomaotes, cucmbers, aubergines and baby sweetcorn!

I need some help with a meat alternative that i can have with my curry sauce and enchilada sauce, as i'm more than happy to go without meat and then i can eat these and OH can have a meat based meal.

Going to bake bread and rolls today. Have meal planned for the rest of the week
S - roast chicken, potatoes, carrots, stuffing and gravy
    M - Stew and dumplings
    T- Fajitas (store cupboard style)
W - I want something to cook with my jar of potato bake...any ideas?
    T- Pasta Bake
    F- Burgers
    S- Fish and Chips

Lunches will be for snacks a fruit loaf that i am going to bake today, I'm going to try my hand at left over stew pasties for OH, also pasta salads, pizzas. I'll probably make some scones too.

We've got 2 jars of pasta sauce in the fridge that need using up. - is there a way to thicken the sauce up to use as the base for the pizza sauce?

  • Hi Bramble, I simmer down pasta sauce until it reduces to about half of it's original thickness. Lovely as a pizza sauce with plenty of extra black pepper and basil/oregano sprinkled on it. I tastes really rich then. :)
Sometimes, I can't see the wood for the trees - or the couscous for the quinoa... 3 no spends so far for August 2011!

What type of potato bake sauce is it Bramble? If it is a cheesy/white or creamy tomato type I add a tin of cheapy pink salmon into it along with some frozen peas and sweetcorn. Makes it quite posh tasting, and a little salmon taste goes a long way! (A few value frozen prawns are yummy too.... ;))

You could also mix in some smoked salmon trimmings if you spot some at the supermarket. The last lot I bought were around 79p which did a pasta bake for 3 plus a couple of sandwiches. (Instead of the tinned salmon, not with - that's tooooo naughty!)

it's a ham and bacon one... i suppose more ham or something could bulk it out more (i'd eat just the potato bake on it's own, but OH will want more!) I don't like salmon!! But would prawns work with pork?

yes prawns work with Pork. When DH makes stir fries... (I don't like the ones he makes :( ) we have prawns with pork, beef or chicken.
  • OH has just looked over my shoulder and stated 'please tell her that prawns go with ANYTHING!!!:drool::drool:' (he'd eat them with trifle!). No seriously, we eat pork and prawns together (kebabs, chinese, curries) just depends on yours and OH preference. I did buy a pack of cooking bacon yesterday for £1.20 for 670g from Mr. S. It had some lovely big 'gammony' chunks in that would be nice in that kind of thing.

Ooh, extra onions and/or mushrooms to bulk it out of OH/you like them...

My DH is like yours... will eat prawns or seafood with most things. He loves fish, seafood, mussels, prawns...etc.

Aureol - glad to see another connoisseur of the prawn/pork combo....! in your DH. Just out of interest, what don't you like about his stir fries????!!!!

just the way he makes them. I like quite a bit of sauce, but by the time he has finished, there is very little sauce left. So I let him make them, as they are his signature dish and just eat whatever I fancy.
