Refused instore promotion at Boots

Hi, could anyone advise if I have any claim on the following.
I have tonight been to a boots store and purchased a 50ml Armani code perfume, mainly because there is a poster up saying buy any 50ml armani fragrance and get a free armani leather bag.
When we got it to the till we were refused the bag because they said the perfume was half price (the price tag did not state it was in a sale) and we hadnt spent £41. The poster only said the only exclusion was giftsets.
We asked to speak to a manager only to be told after 5 minutes she was to busy but she said we couldn`t have the bag.
I believe we were right however I would like some backup before I progress my complaint.
Thanks
Stuart

i guess if it was me i would of either bought another bottle to get the bag or been chuffed that it cost me £20 instead of £40 xxx0

it probably says somewhere in some smallprint that it only applies to full price items. You may get some response due to the goodwill of the shop but other than that they can refuse if they wish.
If they made a habit of this they could be reported to trading standards.
In reality though do you want to get worked over such a trivial thing. Most people would have just not bought the reduced perfume or asked for a refund on that one.
Life's too short to get worked up over a free gift.0 -
The offer online is
Free Armani bag when you buy selected Armani fragrances.
There are lots of other offers on fragrances which are also "selected" ones, the same as the "save up to 1/2 price on selected fragrances".
I have not seen the store poster but hidden on it somewhere will probably be "selected"0 -
I can't access the boots site at the moment, but promotions frequently have a term stating only one promotion can be applied at any one time. And, ultimately, they didn't have to allow you to participate in the offer.Competition wins: Where's Wally Goody Bag, Club badge branded football, Nivea for Men Goody Bag0

Never accept the manager is busy, always demand to see them.
The manager could have told you on what grounds they are refusing the offer.
There are far too many dodgy offers in stores it makes me angry grrrr0 -

If Freda had given me £40 for mangrance, she would need a locksmith to get back in the house and find her bags on the dorrstep.Never accept the manager is busy, always demand to see them.
Toot Toot sweetie, I have my rights, to what?0 -

If they have a sign up to say that there's an offer, they can't just refuse to give it to you without an explanation.
That would mean that they can put up all sorts of offers to get people in the store then refuse to give it to them.
So many people on here just love to gtive people a hard time, amazing what people get off on.0 -

You are getting confused here with 2 issues. Advertising and an item being "for sale".
They could certainly get a slapped wrist for false advertising if they continually had offers/prices that were genuinely misleading but you cannot force a shop to sell you anything. Hence they could refuse to sell to anyone that wasn't wearing a purple hat if they so chose.
I am not here to give anyone a hard time, I am just here to clarify your original point that alluded to the fact you should receive a reason as to why a shop would not sell you something or allow you to take up an offer. You have no legal entitlement to any good that a shop owns, when you buy something you make them an offer to purchase it from them. They have the ability to reject without giving a reason.
We've seen on a number of threads you being confused between "Consumer Rights" and "Consumer Wants".Thinking critically since 1996....0
