Would you buy a SORN car with no MOT

With a hard roof, and the "trimmings" could easily sell for £1000, hard roofs are difficult to come by, even if somebody just strips it for parts.
These are truly great cars, they rarely "die" normally somebody will take them on as a project, parts are easy to get and cheap, coupled with extreme reliability.

Thanks all. It would appear that I have been 'advised' to sell at a price that is far too low. I have had a look quickly tonight and Andy is quite right....the hard roof alone is going for between £500 and £800 so I will have a think about how much to advertise it for and take it from there.
Funnily enough I have had quite a few "expressions of interest" and at least two offers just from posting on here which was not my intention at all, but welcome nonetheless.YOUR = belonging to you (your coat); YOU'RE = you are (I hope you're ok)
really....it's not hard to understand :T0 -
Ordianary cars are worth virtally nothing without an MOT but cars such as this, which people get enthused about are going to be worth more. There's always someone who will be willing to take a chance on buying an mx5 without an MOT.If you were closer to me I'd have come around and took a look too.0

If it were mine, I'd get a new battery (doesn't have to be a premium brand) and a new MOT. You'll get the money back in a higher sale price.0

Thanks both....the battery was brand new in April, but hasn't been used since. The MOT expired on 30th August.YOUR = belonging to you (your coat); YOU'RE = you are (I hope you're ok)

Borrow a charger or get one( this one is probably out of stock)

Or a set of jump leads, you must know someone with a car.
Once started it will be so much easier to do things with it.
By the looks of it should go for a reasonable amount with little effort.
Might be worth trying a new MOT, how many miles has it done since the last one, has it been garaged.0 -
Ask a neighbour to jump start it, then immediately drive to a prebooked mot. If it fails you've spent 40 but perhaps it will be a cheap fix, and you'd get more for it. If it fails badly you can be honest when selling it.0

I'm hoping to sell OH's Eunos Roadster (Mazda MX5 import) but it has been sitting on my drive, undriven, since April. OH now works abroad and no longer needs it.
The tax is due today but as I am looking to sell it, there doesn't seem much point in taxing it so am planning on delaring it SORN. However, the MOT is also due but I have been advised that whilst people might by a SORN car, they would be more wary of a car with no MOT.
I can understand this, but I will need to get the car towed to its MOT as the battery is now flat.
Can anyone just advise me what to do? I am only asking about £3-400 for the car so don't want to throw money at it that I don't have to.
Thanks.
£400? I'd have a punt. MOT is only worth a toss for the amount of time the car is spent on the ramp having a test. You could drive it out the test centre, hit a large kerb and bend all the front end suspension and steering but still have a valid MOT. Anyone who thinks a MOT is an indication of roadworthiness is someone waiting to have their wallet raped.
Sadly I'm abroad and sans garage for another month otherwise I'd have PM'd you;)0 -
A good friend of mine has just spent £500 on an "absolute dog" of an MX-5 alebit with a short MOT, it is in horric condition, and he's not easily fooled, so it shows that there is a demand for them.
I have one sitting on my driveway, it's a truly brilliant car. Nothing else comes remotely close for the money, it's a rip off of some old Leyland heap, but the Japanese sold it back to us as a much better package, nicer to drive, and a hundred times more reliable.
Why don't you keep it? They cost pence to run, as a second car most of them can be had on a low miles classic policy for sub £200 a year.
Don't sell to some "know it all" telling you the whole lot is "worth £400 love and that's doing ya' a favour", bide your time, it's worth a considerable amount more than that with a hard roof.
