Would you buy a SORN car with no MOT
I'm hoping to sell OH's Eunos Roadster (Mazda MX5 import) but it has been sitting on my drive, undriven, since April. OH now works abroad and no longer needs it.
The tax is due today but as I am looking to sell it, there doesn't seem much point in taxing it so am planning on delaring it SORN. However, the MOT is also due but I have been advised that whilst people might by a SORN car, they would be more wary of a car with no MOT.
I can understand this, but I will need to get the car towed to its MOT as the battery is now flat.
Can anyone just advise me what to do? I am only asking about £3-400 for the car so don't want to throw money at it that I don't have to.
Thanks.

i did a 205 gti that has not run since 2002,just make sure you advertise it exactly as it is and be prepared to take less than they are worth because it is the way it is.
you will need to get a battery for mot as they cannot do a test with it not running.also it can be driven to garage so long as insured and mot is booked without breaking the law.0 -
At £3-400 I'd be interested if I had the space, sounds like a bargain stick it on the MX5 OC0

Thanks Keith. It has a hard top included, leather seats and Nardi steering wheel and gear stick. What is the MX5 OC?? Sorry if that's a dim question....YOUR = belonging to you (your coat); YOU'RE = you are (I hope you're ok)

Ebay it as honestly as possible and put a bit in about viewing highly recommended. Start it at £300 if this is a figure you'd accept then if someone bids, it's gone.0

I'm considering this, but I've read a few stories where the bidder comes to take a look, decides they don't want it (for whatever reason) and I'd then be left paying the eBay fees. I've never sold on eBay before and am a bit wary of selling a car for my first sale.
Someone else suggested Gumtree (free listing) so might try that and the local small ads first.YOUR = belonging to you (your coat); YOU'RE = you are (I hope you're ok)

Sounds insanely cheap!
Have a read of the owners club, and list it on ebay at £300 and see where it ends.
With ebay if you don't sell you get the fees back and can relist it, tbh with an honest description you'll probably not be messed around by timewasters0 -
You could sell it at an auction. Auction houses usually tow it to the auction house for a fee and you don't have to worry about people wanting to test drive it, etc. You might want to fix it so that it can potentially buyers can see it moving though.0

put it on pistonheads, it will be sold in no time0

I have just sold a Mini on ebay with no tax or test, hasn't been on the road since April 09. I started it at the minimum I would accept, I had 88 watchers and the first person that came to view bought it for £300 more than my starting price so I removed it. Saves people bidding then trying to get it for less after the auction has finished.
I had a lot of emails, people asking for a buy it now price and people offering a cash price to pick up straight away. I just replied that I was not willing to take offers from anyone who hadn't seen the car.
I wouldn't advise you use a auction house as the fees they charge would be too high to get any return.
I have just bought a Mazda MX5 private from the Autotrader website
but there is also a lot for sale on Pistonheads classified and it's free to advertise on there.
I would buy it if it was in Yorkshire.
