Hi all,
Want to take hubby to LV for his 40th next May. Now I've traelled a fair bit but never been to the US.
Before I jump in and book flights & hotel what do I need to sort out document/visa wise? We've both got old style passports - are we going to need to get new digi passports for the US?
Thanks

Regular UK passport (mine is six-ish years old and fine). Fill in the ESTA forms NOW before they start charging in about a weeks time. It doesn't commit you to going.

Thanks - where would I get the Esta forms? And what are they?

do the esta before 8th sept and it will be free they last 2 years, charge after then is $14 each.
you also need machine readable passport to go to US aswell.
also have a look on the vegas thread for loads of info0 -
And although the ESTA form asks for an arriving flight number and date together with a first nights accommodation address, you can skip these as they are not required for the ESTA "authorisation".

Well I'm guessing we don't have the 'machine readable' passports so that's that! I'm not paying for two new passports just to go on a weeks break to LV.0

Does it have the bit on the bottom like this sample from the US Dept of State website? I thought most UK passports issued in the last 10+ years were machine readable.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Yes from what I have read above it will be ok if has that info at the bottom0

When we came back from honeymoon in July (Madeira) there were two queues - one for scannable passports and a VERY long one for those that weren't - lots of people tried to join the 'scannable' queue with pssports like ours but were sent to the back of the long queue.
Which bit ferf?
