I have a Dell 5150, xp, pentium 4, I downloaded an update from the dell driver website and must have used the wrong one because now my keyboard and mouse will not work with my computer. (I am using my son's laptop to post this), I have managed to press f2 on boot up and get into setup but do not know how to do a system restore back to how my computer was before? Or know of another way to fix the problem.
can anyone help me?

what type of driver did you install.
a windows reinstall repair may help0 -
have you tried a standard keyboard and mouse ?? I assume this has a wireless one and that is what is not working ??
then you can get indo safe mode and do a system restore to before you did the driver updateEx forum ambassador

cwoodham thanks for that, but since my keyboard or mouse won't work to click on the various options to get to system restore (I have used it previously), I have a big problem.
Starting to feel a bit ratty now, frantically searching google to find a way of doing repair reinstall without a cd, looks like I could do the dell restore using dell recovery partition but don't want to lose my settings etc, dell tech support is closed till Monday, don't know what to do, feel like I cannot live without my computer till monday:mad:I always wanted to be a procrastinator, never got round to it...0 -
Your best bet is to borrow or buy a ps/2 keyboard and mouse like this and this.
These will allow you to access System Restore in Safe Mode and roll back the driver update you did. You will then be able to use your usb keyboard and mouse again.
Once you've recovered don't try re-installing the chipset driver - if it aint broke, don't fix it!
