Sky cabling query

Apologies if this is an old chestnut, but it's new to me! We have an ageing Sky box in our living room. We agreed to let child take advantage of the free Sky HD box a couple of years ago, and signed up to multi-room, with the HD box being cabled to his room. He has now left home [yeehah!] and we'd like to bring the Sky HD box into the living room and cancel multi room.

Does Sky have to do the new cabling? Or can I ask an ariel fitter to do it? The box is out of contract so it's mine now.

  • You can get a cable fitter but with a small amount of confidence you can do it yourself.

This is not always achievable though so yes look in the local press for a fitter with local references for peace of mind.
Marry a Foreigner, its so much cheaper!

Any satellite/aerial installer can do the job, you don't need Sky.
I'm not clear why you need an installer to move the box though?
Presumably you already have a quad LNB, how many feeds are there to each location at the moment?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Thanks both. Macman - there is a HD cable to son's room but only a non-HD feed into the living room. No other rooms are Sky'ed. But presumably I need the cable to the living room replacing before I can experience HD and the benefits of Sky +?

There is no such thing as an hd/non-hd cable coming from the dish , they're both exactly the same, so just swap the boxes over for a quick solution. The only thing is if you want to watch one channel whilst recording another, you'll need two feeds from the dish into your living room.

Replaced with a twin run or just another feed cabled the same way for + functionality. A Sky HD would still produce full HD and full channel line up, just would not pause, record ect..

Wrong - if set to single feed mode the HD box will still have all Sky+ functions and record, pause etc. What it will not do however is record one channel whilst you watch another or record two channels at the same time.

    ^^^ Right ^^^
  • Hey, that's great news! Had assumed that a specific HD cable was required. Am not in the least bothered about recording one channel whilst watching another [life's too short...] so will just swap the box and cancel mutiroom. Thanks all.
