I was a beta tester for Gmail and I've never had a problem with it. At all. Ever.
So why isn't there an option not to have the Conversations feature, one of the single most infuriating facilities known to man? Or woman...

It can't be that bad if it has around 180 million active users.

When it was in beta/launched wasn't one of the strap lines 'doing email differently' or something like that? It would be 'just another' webmail if you could turn conversations off.

Genuine question - why is it a problem? I can appreciate it that not everyone likes it - but does it actually cause problems?

Some people will never like change...

I personally like gmail for the integration with other apps e.g. Android marketplace

You could make the same argument for The Sun!

I find it immensely confusing. And businesses using Gmail have ever-so-major problems with sending the same email to many other companies, and getting replies from several, all strung together in the same thread. (Do a search on Gmail Conversations since about 2007 for large amounts of annoyance.)

I object also to Google's Apple-like principle that "we know what's good for you, and you have no option to change it"...

What conversations feature? The linking together of emails? That's pretty helpful.

The chat facility? You can disable.

    Google Buzz? You can disable.

It's not to everyone's taste and no one's trying to force it down your throat, we're just giving opinions, to which everyone is entitled...
