Hi,
I have at the moment hotmail address and then addresses linked to couple of domain names that I get to my Outlook. Eventually I would like to get rid of these addresses and Outlook and only have email that can be operated online. So my question is that which one of the free ones people find the best to use and most likely not to go bust so that my emails and contacts would stay safe.
Also other question is that I have now all my emails and contacts on my dying laptop and would like to get them to pc. What is the easiest way to do it?

Google's Gmail is very popular and does just about everything - it integrates nicely with Google's other applications too.0

Another bump for Gmail.
You never have to delete an email, it has huge space and it's POP3/IMAP enabled (you need to set it up - easy peasy and with Q&A)0 -
Another vote here for Google. Although I have a few domains with email I would prefer a web based client as well if the hosting doesn't come with one I just use mail2web works with any pop3 email.jakswan .co. uk Just me droning on about Gadgets and the Wife, two kids, massive mortgage, yes it is boring:p0

GMX.com. Unlike Google, it doesn't go scanning through your emails to decide what adverts to spam you with and unlike google, there's not been stories of people being able to access emails either through search or via another Gmail account. It also has 5GB of storage, a 50MB attachment limit and a very handy "File Storage Exchange" for sharing files bigger than the attachment limit. Has IMAP and will also retrieve your emails from other accounts including Hotmail, Gmail and Yahoo.
AND UNLIKE HOTMAIL, GMAIL AND YAHOO YOU WON'T FIND ANY WEBSITE SAYING YOU CAN'T USE IT TO SIGN UP WITH0 -
I was a beta tester for Gmail and I've never had a problem with it. At all. Ever.0

another plus point of gmail is it's one of the few to support AND enable SSL as default, otherwise you receive your emails as plaintext and its particularly easy for them to be read in transit
