Ooooh I'm invited for supper then, excellent.
I best look out an ice cream recipe, don't want to let the side down by going for the shop bought variety.:j :jMFW predicted end date: was 6.1.2026, now 3.3.20190 -
Hello Mr BE and Tigs78 - just thought I'd let you know I have informed all the 'slatterns' about this thread so we could all look forward to a good [STRIKE]laugh[/STRIKE] I mean cookery lesson!
Good Luck with the challenge.....
ps - personally I'd opt for shop bought pastry:rotfl: :rotfl:
Quite keen moneysaver......0 -
There's no shame in using shop bought pastry - the main thing is that you're making the pie which is more than many people seem prepared to do these days. You can always make your own pastry in a future challenge......:D0

How about one of these for your recipe?

Good to see you again, Mr Badexample, I was beginning to wonder if you had given up cooking.0 -
Hiya!
Have been looking forward to this! The ChocYogurt cake thread was great! :rotfl: :rotfl: Thanks mr be - cake recipe is fab too (I make it secretly when everyone is out, hide all trace of baking and cake for 3 days then I whip it out tada! Wouldn't make it otherwise!)
I haven't made a pie for years so will be taking notes.
Best of luck to you both!
Erm just a little thing - don't want to deflate your bubble tigs78 but.....Anybody got any thoughts as to which tin/dish I should use?
The proper pie tin is 8inches accross not including the lip and 1 1/2 inches high. The ceramic dish is 9 inches accross and 2 inches high.
EDIT: Have resized the pic as it was ridiculously large
where I come from that's a sandwich cake tin ... pie dishes have sloping sides. Or am I in a minority here?
But a tin is a tin in my book - if it is approx the right size/shape I'll use it! I have been known to use cups/glasses to cut out pastry circles and have used bottles for rolling pins among other improvisations.....
Oh and my vote is for shop bought puff but hm shortcrust in case you're counting!
Did someone mention maltesers? Would there be enough for a malteser cake for pudding?:drool:0 -

I thought it was a sandwich tin too, it has certainly never seen a scrap of pastry in it's life! I put 'pie dish' on a search on ebay and this came up, it's the same as mine...bigmuffins wrote:Did someone mention maltesers? Would there be enough for a malteser cake for pudding?
I'm definitely feeling the malteser cake but I think I might be getting a bit ahead of myself trying to make two new things in one day!0 -

Oooops!
Have you chosen the recipe yet? If not you might want to consider Jamie Oliver's recipe for Chicken and sweet leek pie as well.My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead
Proud to be a chic shopper

Good to see you again, Mr Badexample, I was beginning to wonder if you had given up cooking.
Cheers, some good help there. I'm thinking about the one with bacon in, as bacon makes everything proper.
Whaddya think tigs?If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
The bacon one (waitrose one) sounds good but it's massive, it says to use 6 chicken breasts!
Does anyone know whether we could just reduce the quantities proportionatly and whether it would still come out OK?0 -
full sympathy here I have to make a couple of pies....so am off receipe hunting!! Good luck girls and boys in your challenge
and yes you can reduce the quantities, just make sure you reduce the amount for all ingredients and by the same amount. I find it helpful to rewrite the ingredients list with the revised quantities otherwise I end up forgetting and putting in 4 times the amount of something!!!
