Halifax Clarity Exchange rate

Are you sure you didn't fall foul of DCC? Sounds a bit unlikely given that you didn't with Nationwide, but it seems odd that the rate was THAT much worse if you didn't.0

Possibly I did fall foul of DCC.
I opted to be charged in Euros which I normally do when using Nationwide. However the print out from the ATM gave a sterling equivalent ( which Nationwide does not - it just shows it in Euros and you find out the amount when you get back). There was also a warning that the cardholder has chosen not to use the Mastercard currency conversion process and that the cardholder will have no recourse against Mastercard concerning the currency conversion or its disclosure. Should I have chosen GBP at the ATM? I'm confused.
Incidentally one of the ATMs was Santander Telebanco !! and the other was Telebanco0 -

Badly worded ATM screen by the sounds of it - and with the warning it looks as if you have fallen foul of DCC.0 -

Hi, I am about to go to Portugal and have the Clarity card to use whilst over there.
Can someone explain what DCC is and how I can avoid "falling foul" of it like the person above?
Thanks in advance!0 -
i can't remember the exact wording but towards the end of the transaction it gives you the option to select either "with conversion" or "without conversion". i always choose "without conversion". the clarity card is brill and i go online as soon as i get home and make a payment even if it's before you receive the bill as it cuts the interest.0

Dynamic Currency Conversion. If you are offered a transaction in GBP, refuse it and opt for the local currency too benefit from the exchange rate that Clarity uses.0

Quick question.
Can I preload my Clarity with cash to give me a credit balance, go abroad and withdraw cash to my credit value, and avoid interest?0 -

From Halifax FAQ's......
Can I put money on my card to increase my available credit whilst on holiday?
Credit cards are not designed to be used this way. Using the card in this way breaches the product's Terms & Conditions, which state:
7.7 You must not make payments or transfer funds from another credit or store card to your account that would leave a credit balance on your account. We may return any funds that exceed the balance owing on your account to the account from which the money was sent.0
