Voda Dongle Sim

I have got one of the vodafone 1 gig (non expiring) data sim
I am thinking of getting a Galaxy S smart phone and don't want a long contract as I will only use it ad-hoc .
Someone told me but was not sure, that I could use the sim in my voda dongle but will only be able to use internet and no voice, That's fine by me .
Is there any settings I would need to change on the Phone if that is the case.
