                    Hi all,
Been a while since I've been on this site but figured it's a good place to start! Basically I'm thinking about sorting a car loan through my employers in order to buy a new car. Sounds daft getting more debt I know, but my job relies on me having a decent reliable car and the loans through work are at similar rates to student loans and a far better deal than most finance deals around at the moment.
Anyway, I'm really struggling to decide on a car in order to start actually looking at prices. At the moment, I drive a Skoda Fabia which was great when I had an hours drive on the motorway to work, but now I live closer and therefore a diesel won't be so economical for the shorter journeys. I've recently had to have a hire car through work which was a Hyundai i30 which I really liked, but I also like VW polo and Golf. But which is the most economical to drive, tax and insure?
Basically, I'm a social worker, so I need it to be very reliable (cant afford for it to break down as I try to leave an aggressive client!), I'm thinking petrol as it requires less maintainence than a diesel on shorter journeys. It needs to be a medium car similar to what I noted above as that's the best size for my needs, it needs to be economic on petrol but also quite nippy as I often have to get around quite quickly...plus I tend to be more of a speedfreak than a snail type driver!
I really like my current skoda, but with it's age and the fact it's diesel, I'm finding it more expensive to maintain, so I want something newer.
Any idea's on which car to buy would be much appreciated!
Nikki

Thanks for the replies guys! I will confess, I'm kinda of tied between a Skoda Fabia, VW Polo or Golf or Hyundai i30... Have a Fabia at mo which has been a brilliant car so and Polo and Golf are basically exactly the same car! Had a i30 recently for work and actually really liked it, just wasn't sure how reliable they are!
As for warrenty's, I'm not worried about those as I tend to find they aren't worth the paper their written on anyway!0

Hyundai i30 is highly reliable and the best choice in your list.0

Fabia is based on Polo chassis and Octavia on the Golf. The Golf is bigger than the Polo. So on that Basis what about an Octavia?lilysgarden wrote: »Have a Fabia at mo which has been a brilliant car so and Polo and Golf are basically exactly the same car!0

Check out all the independant roadtest reports, you will get a far less biased view than asking on here. None/very few of us agree and all have very different experiences and favourites. It's a more limited view on this forum is what I'm actually saying, because no one admits to having bought a crap car. I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button. Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0

Although sometimes they're not all that independent (particularly where one car MFR pays more for adverts in your mag than any other). Also a review of what a car feels like for a 100 mile journey, quality of handling, responsiveness of the engine etc doesn't say much about the long-term reliability. They're as good a place as any to start though.cyclonebri1 wrote: »Check out all the independant roadtest reports0
