When I was cleaning insides of my pc, and small chip or metal piece came off I think it was the motherboard.
Someone told me its something to do with after a time it drops off, to do with guarantee or something.
Can someone here explain?

There are no components on a motherboard designed to fall off after "a time". They may melt, burn out or blow up but they don't drop off.
Does The PC power up and function?
If not then you broke it, if purchased from a retailer then you voided the warranty by opening the cases so....

When it was booting up before it was taking ages. Thats why it now at pc docs, he said he had a lot of trouble with it, It would take over half hour just to boot up. Well I think it was the motherboard but not really sure. It was a square board thingy and I found a piece of loose metal rolling around inside which had come off this board.
Its still at the docs the pc man said it was not loading Explorer I think he said. I hope it will be repairable, I wont know until morrow when I ring him and find out the result.0 -
It could be the heat sink but a 7 year old PC would be like having a 30 year old Lada that had been used as a chicken coop.......0

If you can't fix a 7 year old PC yourself using spare arts then the cheapest solution would be to take it on a short trip to the local tip and buy another - anything spent on it above £20 is likely to exceed its market value.0

You will never void the warranty by opening the computer case. PCs are designed to be opened in order to install/upgrade components. It's a dfferent story if you open one component e.g. the hard disk etc.0 -
Never?...what if you open the pc and accidently cause damage?0
